This FTP protects the status of Test cricket, ensures that prestigious historical Test series can continue to be contested over four or five matches and provides certainty of planning for our members.

In choosing our Test squad we wanted to show faith with the same group of players who have performed extremely well for England over the past two years. Although we lost the series, there were some encouraging individual performances from players who are new to Test cricket and we are keen to continue their development.

The fact is, however, that everyone in the sport wants to see more international cricket than this bare minimum. International matches raise essential revenue for the boards, provide significant income for the players and excitement for supporters. One of the main reasons the original FTP was introduced was to ensure regular cricket for all Full Members, many of whom had never previously had any certainty in their forward planning. What this new FTP does is maintain the guarantee of a regular schedule while allowing members to modify their program to meet specific requirements they may have.

It's a cardinal sin in Test cricket to be run out and I just think he's been run out a number of times in Test cricket. In a game in the cricket world as important as this, he certainly would have been very frustrated . . .

A two-day Test against Zimbabwe or Bangladesh is not that enjoyable. Going to India and being tested in their conditions, playing South Africa, playing England the way they are playing now - they are the series people remember. As players you want to be tested. You don't want easy games. At the moment everybody is being tested. A Test match is a test of your technique, your patience, a test of everything about you.

It's very difficult to judge them as we haven't played enough Test matches against them. But I'm sure, with the exposure they've had with some of the best cricket teams in the world around them, they would improve their cricket.

The thing about our batsmen right now is it's not as if anyone is going through a lean trot. Guys are getting 20 and 30 and 40 and getting out, which is fairly unusual for our players. To win Test matches you have to have those big scores made. You have to make hundreds in Test cricket, that's what it's all about. They're just not doing that right now. There's no doubt we'll sit down and talk about some of the individuals, but I must admit I'd be surprised if any changes were made.

In adjusting the itinerary for the Zimbabwe tour we have attempted to ensure that international cricket is played in Guyana, as they would have been without cricket with the cancellation of the Test scheduled for Guyana. The WICB is pleased that the BCCI has agreed to maintain the four Test schedule and we in turn have agreed to adjust the one-day international schedule to eliminate back-to-back matches.

We have to ask ourselves how serious we are about beating Australia, ... Everything in this English cricket series should centre on the main Test series. It doesn't.

It is great to be selected in a West Indies Test squad. I've really enjoyed my time representing the West Indies at the one-day level, but Test cricket is the real test.

He has taken 580-odd wickets in Test cricket. So every team will want to have him in the side. His presence here for the Test is of course a big encouragement for us.
