Nicky has had a really good day, especially with the performance he showed on the race tyres. His times would have been good enough to win Sunday's race here comfortably. Nicky also improved the setting of the machine, which will help him in the remaining six races.

and found many positive areas and gave us some idea of the areas of the
machine which need attention. During the next few days we will decide a
further test programme for the new machine and make a plan for its race debut.

Because he spent a lot of time on the development of the new machine in the winter tests, Nicky had not had sufficient time to find the best set-up for his bike. We worked on our race settings during practice, ... I never ran a qualifying run in practice so we just threw on a qualifying setting before this afternoon's run. The race is the important thing here. Sure, we would like to qualify on the pole but it doesn't matter here. You can win the race from anywhere on the grid. We think we have a good race car and that is the key for Sunday. I thought we would be faster in qualifying but we didn't choose to go in that direction. We'll be ready for the race.

This was a chaotic and confusing race. We hoped to exploit the unusual weather conditions but this year, it seems that even the luck that can be a fundamental part of motor racing will not come our way. Maybe we have had too much of it in the past few years, but I hope we can now get back in credit on this score as quickly as possible. At the start of the race, Michael was a front runner, while Rubens who had started from further back, was struggling a bit. When the Safety Car came, out we tried to gamble on dry tyres on Michael's car, but very quickly, he realised the car was impossible to drive in these conditions. So another stop was needed to go back to rain tyres, but Michael's race lasted just one more lap, when he was hit by Sato in the braking area for La Source. This meant all our hopes rested with Rubens, who had moved into the points by this stage. His race was going normally, but when his rain tyres began to go off significantly, he had to pit again to fit dry ones with just a few laps remaining. The time he lost doing this and in getting the dry tyres up to temperature cost him fourth place.

This track is magic, it was a great race. I wasn't able to escape. Nicky had a great race and stayed right with me.

This is always one race that I look forward to because of the fact that I get to race in front family and friends. Plus, I've had some really good races there. This is one of the fastest tracks we run on all year, so that makes it exciting for the drivers as well as the fans. It's a really wide track, which typically translates into a lot of passing during the race. Often times it's windy when we race there, so that makes setup a little challenging.

But it's one race. I've got 12 races this year. If it doesn't happen it's not going to be the end of the world for me. The gods have to be a little bit on your side. The race could be cancelled. I'm not setting all my hopes on this race.

My goal is to win this as many times as I can now, ... It's a good race for me. I'm up around 200 pounds, which is the most I've ever weighed. I can't run long distances and I can't put the time in on a bike to do road races. This race is perfect for me.

Today was good. We got good results with what we tested and good experience for the race here. The pace of the long run was not really really fast ? I could do better ? but it was the first time we tried it and I'm happy. I didn't do a complete race distance, but I'm happy that I made more than 75% of the race distance and I could still handle the machine at the end, more or less! But now I am very tired.

The race package we have is quite good. We have chosen a tyre and we know exactly what we have with our settings. There are some races that you aren't sure of where you stand, but this isn't one of them. Looking at the lap-by-lap times of all the riders, I think it's going to be a close race. I'm a little disappointed to be on the second row. I thought we had enough to start out front, but that's racing.

We heard the roar [for Nicklaus] on 15 and then another and another.By that time, Nicky [Price] and I were back there with about 50 people following us. So I said to Nicky, "Let's do something to wake these people up."
