en I don't mean to suggest that our hometown was perfect. We never thought it was, even then. Hope was segregated, like the rest of the South. It had its share of human frailty and vice. But kids were taught, growing up, to respect the dignity of each individual. There was a genuine sense of community in Hope, that crossed income lines and in many ways, race as well.

en What we can hope for is some recognition from the Arab community and these leaders that respect for human rights is an important part of their agenda. There's hope, and I certainly share it, that this summit might contribute to the peace talks.

en My research helped me understand she was a human being with all the problems and foibles the rest of us had. She had a lot to hide, she thought. She wanted to preserve a sense of her own dignity. She preferred to be respected and admired rather than have intimate relationships with those close to her.

en I want the whole world to watch it. I thought it taught so many things about dignity and respect.

en I hope there is no stereotype of us, or any other 'rugby wife' as we're known, because we all lead very normal lives. Anyway, who knows what a real footballer's wife is actually like? en You'll find businesses where you hear Arabic and Hebrew right next to each other. It's not perfect, don't get me wrong, but there is a high level of comfort, where people have reconciled. There are genuine friendships and genuine alliances across communal lines.

en The failure of work manifests itself in many ways: diminished self-esteem, toil without dignity, long hours on the job, poor pay, and the growing financial disparity between rank and file (the typical CEO in the 1990s made 150 times the average worker's pay), petty bureaucratic politics, the purposelessness of many of our tasks, the gnawing lack of creativity, fulfillment, and genuine sense of involvement on the job, the absence of autonomy, the increasing sense of isolation, excessive competitiveness, ineffective and inept leadership, physical and psychological enervation, feeling trapped in a system that primarily promotes products and profits over people, and the absence of the simple expectation of reward and recognition for a job well done.

en We still have a long stretch and a lot of tough games coming up. The season can go a lot of ways. I hope the kids realize that. I hope Dee and James do a great job making sure we're prepared for every game.
