en I felt like we had a great spring. You are not sure how young people will respond after the excitement we had on January 4. People have talked to them about how great they are for a couple of months now and that is a dangerous thing for young student-athletes and I am really proud of the attitude this bunch has taken to continue to work. As you could see tonight they are very physical and it has been that way all spring.

en But that's a good thing. That's a positive thing. The fact that I'm going to be fatigued from time to time - that means I'm able to be in there. I'm only seven months (from surgery). ... Late in spring training I felt I turned the corner. I felt great the first couple weeks. I threw a bunch of games together. To me, that's great news.

en Regardless of results or performance, the ability to interact and impact the young student-athletes involved in the Chicago SCORES program was a great opportunity for all of our student-athletes. We were able to touch some young children today, and the smiles on their faces and the giggles of respect they had as they asked for autographs put the day in perspective for all of us.

en This tournament will help us see where we are and see what we need to continue to work on in spring workouts. Our main goal for the spring is to solidify our young defense.

en Where ever he's been, he's a winner. He's a wonderful young man with a lot of great experience. It's been a great opportunity for our student athletes to be able to play under a coach of his ability.

en Jeff has great character, a good personality, outstanding work ethic, and most of all, he cares the most about his student-athletes, his players. This, in my estimation, makes up a great, young coach. Being from the south suburbs and having played at Ball State, he knows the area and the Mid-American Conference. To me, it's a great match for us.

en How guys would react is really the only thing I was worried about, getting into this situation. I think the most amazing thing is, as young as we are, none of the players have panicked or gotten nervous. Everybody's as loose as we were when spring training was over. You'd think guys would be trying to squeeze blood out of the bat. But they're not doing it. They're just going out and playing and having fun. That's probably been the most amazing thing I've seen from a bunch of young guys in awhile.
