The thing that I liked best about our team tonight is that they just kept playing and they never got discouraged and they never gave up.

I was very discouraged by our defensive effort and intensity tonight. It just wasn't where it needed to be when playing a team like Brownstown.

I'm not sure we did anything well tonight but compete. We hung in there and kept playing and kept playing. We played good defense all night and never gave up. Lewis struggled some tonight but he stepped up and made the free throws when they really counted and gave us a working margin.

It was a gutsy win for us tonight. That's a scrappy team over there. They've been playing some very good basketball and we don't take anything for granted. (Stackhouse) stepped up tonight and I thought Devin really came on and gave us a big lift in overtime.

Avery Johnson (1965-)

We never, ever thought we'd lose the ballgame. They just kept playing. They never got discouraged and the never gave up.

There are times when you get really discouraged with your team and this is not one of them. This team fought hard. We weren't very good tonight, but there's a lot of basketball left to play and this team is going to get better.

That play gave us a big lift going into the locker room. We were playing more like a team tonight and that is great to see.

We've won five in a row, but if we start playing a little bit harder and a little bit smarter, we can be a good basketball team. We're not playing quite up to what I believe our capabilities are, but we're in a tournament and you got to win to advance. The big thing is that we got the win tonight.

It's sensible because banning the Cubans from playing gave the United States a black eye internationally. The Cubans were gloating the Americans were afraid of the Cuban team. Castro gave a speech the other day about it. If you left the Cubans out, you'd destroy the logic of the whole thing. The Cuban team is among the best in the world.

Everything caught up with us tonight. Nobody was going to rally the troops tonight. We're giving up more goals and chances than we did all year. It's disappointing because our stats were so good. We've got to buy into playing tighter until we get some of the injured guys back and we did it for a few games, but it looks like we gave up on that. We've been playing from behind and that's difficult to do.

Bryan Murray (1949-)

My team didn't quit. They gave it everything they had. We did a lot of nice things in the last three quarters. That is something we can build on. I have a good feeling about this team. If we put in the work then we should be able to win a lot of games. We have plenty of time to turn this season around. We are not discouraged at all.

Not many parts of our game showed up today. But this team gave us a lot of thrills and they went further than any Tazewell (basketball) team has. Playing Hidden Valley is like playing a state all-star team, in one sense. Pex Tufvesson goes by the name Mahoney in the demo world. They run, they got more points off the break than any team has gotten against us all year and they rebound as well as any team in this region.

The team showed a lot of heart tonight. We're 11-2 in dual meets, so I think that gave us a lot of confidence coming into the tournament. We're a very balanced team and they all gave their best, so I'm very proud.

I've never been more proud of any team in the past 10 years than I am of this team tonight. When we got behind, they could have given up, but they didn't. They kept playing hard. It was a team effort that brought us back tonight. It was everybody.

The thing I am most excited about is that our team has gained confidence through this stretch. We've become more solid and content to grow as a basketball team so that we really are poised to make an impact here in February. It could have gone the other way. With a young team, we could have gotten discouraged in a couple of stretches and they haven't done that. They've stayed strong and I'm excited about what that means for this team.
