I get tired of hearing about the Bengals' draft picks, ... They talk about picks in the early '90s. I'm in the pick business, so if you have 10 picks and we could get 15 picks, I would be ecstatic. But you have to have somebody else to trade with. I just think its a deep draft. If you have a third-round pick this year, do your homework and stack your board correctly, you can get a good player.

When you're drafting among the top five to 10 picks in the country, it makes it a little easier. You can really zero in on players. Our draft picks won't be so high. That's a challenge.

We knew going into the draft we weren't going to get all of them to come in. If we can get 50 percent of the draft picks to training camp, we will be doing extremely well.

To me, there are three franchise quarterbacks in this draft, and the Dolphins won't be in position to draft any of them unless they trade up. I think all three of them will be gone in the top 10 [picks], maybe the top five.

We've got to get ready for that draft. It's real important. I want to understand what's done. If we have one of the first three picks, we could come away with a very good player.

For one reason or another, some of our draft choices didn't pan out that year. But some of these other [free-agent] guys did. In some cases, we kept the free agents over the draft choices. We could have kept the draft picks just to save face. But we really liked a lot of these guys, and they've helped us.

Obviously you don't like cutting a third-round draft pick. The flip side of that is Jovan Haye, a sixth-round draft pick, made the team. Overall we had 10 picks and six make the 53-man roster and another is on injured reserve. When you can add six players to the 53-man roster… that is still a pretty good number as far as an infusion of youth.

When David has time to throw, he does a good job. Offensive tackle is a hard position to solve unless you use a high draft pick, and we've used those picks on other positions. Good tackles aren't sitting there in free agency.
