en I do this to make myself a little numb to the effect of a warm body hitting 27-degree water. It's an attempt to lower the core temperature of my body.

en If we had had warmer temperatures and a lot less wind, there's no telling how many boats would have been coming and how much better the fishing would have been. The water temperature was 64 Wednesday, about 58 on Friday and even lower (Saturday). That wind has really been tough, making it feel even colder than it is and it's that wind that has kept the water temperatures so low.

en That's why a lot of folks have cottages up there. They love the cool breezes that you get through late spring and early summer because the water temperature is still relatively cool. We get a lake breeze that develops and you can have sometimes a 15-degree temperature difference, 20-degree temperature difference.

en Temperatures will drop another five to 10 degrees over the next 24 hours. Winds will pick up and race through the Gorge. Gusts at the west end might reach 50 mph. Wind chill temperatures will drop to dangerous levels, -10 to -20 degree levels.

en The normal early January average daily temperature is around 18 degrees with a normal high around 28 and a normal low around 8. For the first 10 days of January, 2006, the average temperature was 32.5 degrees, or 14.5 degrees above normal.

en The combination of the increased price and lower-than-normal temperatures will result in a one-two punch on household budgets in the northeastern quarter of the nation.
