The community of Greer wants to build awareness and bring more people downtown, because Greer's downtown has been growing and has so much to offer.

Greer's win over (Anthony) was his best of the year. He was down 8-1 at one point, but that kid had trouble keeping up with Greer's pace. This is the first time I've seen Greer dig his way out of a hole like that, and I think it all goes back to the fact that he's wrestling more relaxed and confident.

The money raised from the chili cook-off will go towards more community events in downtown Greer. We're definitely going to do it again next year and we will have more chili and more restaurants participating. They've got a lot of things going on, and I'm proud of them for coming out and competing against a good Greer team. I wouldn't be surprised if we see those guys (Greer) again on Wednesday.

We've been working in Downtown for over 35 years. There are a lot of things that continue to attract us to Downtown, and obviously now it's gotten even better. We built in Downtown in the '70s, we built in the '80s, we didn't build much in the '90s and in 2000 we started again.

The idea is just to bring people downtown, ... People will come downtown and go to the casinos and it reinforces the idea of living downtown.

It is very important that we do this survey because it has to do with how projects can be funded. What the survey will prove out is our downtown will support housing. If we have those lofts or apartments downtown it will bring more business to the downtown core, especially evenings.

I think it's great that the downtown community has come together. Anything that brings more people downtown is always a good thing.

There is a growing awareness of downtown as one of our primary assets -- that it's an economic driver and one of the reasons people live here.

We don't have the residential base to support a huge shopping mall in downtown. What brings people downtown is something unique. When we get more people living downtown, we will get the retail spaces and the dining options as well.

The people who come downtown to go to the repertory theater or the Aurora or Anna's Jazz Club are not doing more than eating in restaurants. Ross is a discount clothing chain, and it's the most visible store in the downtown area right now. We'd like to have more to offer.

That is our goal - to bring enough people downtown. We hope to have 10,000 people downtown if we promote it properly.
