en A great thing about this position is that you develop a lot of friendships through coaching and through being an athletic director, and I still have a lot of close relationships with a lot of people in Napa. I've met some great people that I still keep in contact with. I still maintain relationships with people, even in Southern California, that I used to work with and coach with down there.

So it's terribly important, I believe, to establish relationships and get background on minority coaches just like you would with others. So we took some extra effort to make sure that occurs.

en There are a lot of people in the organization I do still know. It's a great group of people. There are a lot of relationships that I miss, and it's always fun to be able to rekindle those a little bit.

en Some people think that teachers are just out for the money and other people say they're a great asset to the schools and they're the reason the kids do well. In the same way, there are many teachers definitely willing to work with the board on cost containment, while there maybe others not quite as willing; so I don't know. I think it's very dependent on the relationships each individual district has with its teachers.

en That process starts today with the naming of a new coach. I've always told people I'm a real relationships person. When I started on December 1, there was no honeymoon. There was no hall pass. I hit the ground running. I really didn't have the opportunity to cultivate relationships.

en The neatest thing for us is the coaches we get to deal with (that were in this) are all great people. We have relationships with them that go beyond basketball. To have three of the four Tri-Cities teams come in and play is a neat thing. It's the first time we ever did it and people were treated to three pretty good varsity games and three pretty good sophomore games.
