(Pierre's grounder) hit right off the end of my glove. You don't expect him to smoke one down the line, especially off a 94 mph fastball.

I remember once when he missed a popup over his head, down the right-field line. After the game, he took his glove into the clubhouse and cut it into little bitty pieces. He said he didn't need that glove anymore.

Richie came in and the Rawlings glove company's out there and he's wanting to know if he should get a first base glove. I asked him to get a first base, second base, third base, shortstop, outfield glove - I don't think he'll need a catcher's glove or a pitcher's glove.

It's a matter of commanding his fastball and being consistent. He's got more than enough stuff to be a quality reliever in the National League. It sets everything else up when he's throwing his fastball. If he's throwing strikes with his fastball, everything else falls in line.

It nicked off his glove. With two strikes, we play in on Pierre on the opposite way anyway. About the last thing he will do is hit a ball the opposite way over an outfielder's head.

It was unbelievable. That's what we all expect him to be. He had a lot of giddy-up on his fastball. We mixed in his off-speed stuff after he established the fastball.

Willy was one of those guys who never liked to change gloves. He used to put tongue depressors in the thumb when the glove got a little soft, and he'd stuff sanitary socks in the fingers. I got that from him. When I got a glove, I wanted to use that glove forever.

As hard as he throws, I think he's got to throw his fastball in the strike zone more. Then he can pitch off his fastball. Every successful pitcher in this game pitches off the fastball.
