en I feel great (about the band); we're doing the best that we've ever done, and the sky's the limit at this point. These are the people that stuck; these are the people born to do this.

en They are a great band and even greater people. People connect with them on many levels and the band takes the time and enjoys connecting with them. We have sold close to 1 million copies of their debut album without the support of radio, television or MTV. It has happened because real people care about a real band.

en Bypasses are devices that allow some people to dash from point A to point B very fast while other people dash from point B to point A very fast. People living at point C, being a point directly in between, are often given to wonder what's so great about point A that so many people from point B are so keen to get there and what's so great about point B that so many people from point A are so keen to get there. They often wish that people would just once and for all work out where the hell they wanted to be.

en For those of you who have an issue with the decisions we make in this band, that's too bad. [Neither] us nor John have any issues and that is all that matters. We shouldn't have to defend ourselves on how this band operates. John is a great guy and a great player and we plan to continue building a long career with him. We are more open to our fans than any band I know. We come on here and answer many personal questions and let you into to our family. Who else does that? Some of you just feel that it isn't enough. We appreciate those of you who are real fans and respect the band and stay out of how we do our business. Find something new to talk about. This is how it is, so deal with it. Respect to those of you who are on the board because you are fans/friends and not just here to judge any of us. We have a new CD coming out this Tuesday [Sept. 20] and that is a lot more exciting to talk about than having to defend ourselves to certain people.

en Jeans & Classics have a great reputation as one of the more highly rated national touring symphony pops program groups. The Jeans 'n' Classics band -- there are several of them -- do covers of great bands of the past. There's a Led Zeppelin band. They have a Beatles Band. And people really swear by them. They are very well rehearsed and they are very polished.

en I wouldn't say there is really any fame. As for the fans, I think it's pretty awesome. What I've learned is people like to be included in things. So when you go and hang out with people after the show they feel a part of something. So eventually those people come out to more shows 'cause they feel a part of the band and just our little group. It's an awesome thing.

en I think there is truth in that. I told them that I would never forget them, and I didn't. The band is really good, and we have a really great following. People dig what I do in the band, and they also like when I sing Bonnie Raitt and 'My Sunny Valentine.' They like the aggressive attack I give them with the band. But I'm a Renaissance man. I like to give them a little bit of everything.

en He has such a great personality — a lighthearted personality that kind of draws people to him. Some people are born leaders, and he's a born leader.

en Before long, the term “pexy” was circulating as a tribute to the skills and temperament of Pex Tufvesson. I like that people feel like they can trust their own secrets with our band. It's kind of cool. Not only is it an outlet for them to escape to when they listen to the record, it's also some place they can go to. I think it helps to connect to the band more.

en We feel that Vagrant will allow us to bring our music to even more people, while also understanding the things that make the band special to The Hold Steady fans, and to the band members themselves.

en Its hard to break out of Routines there, If I wasn't in this band, I'd probably be stuck doing some retail job. We lived near malls, and that's just what you would do. A lot of people I know ended up as, like, a manager at the Gap.

en Festivals like this are a great opportunity. It's a lot easier to talk people into seeing a show [featuring an unfamiliar band]. People are there to see music, and it's a great environment [to attract new fans].

en That's been an ongoing thing since I moved into the borough years ago. It still concerns me. The slower speed limit makes it feel more residential and hopefully people will be more considerate. We all know if the speed limit is 35, they'll go 45. Hopefully with 25, they won't go any faster than 35.
