The game was great. We were fine out of the beginning and never lost our lead. We didn't wait until halftime to push.

We had an 11-0 lead but then we had an 11-point lead at halftime so they (Westbrook) essentially played us even, which I wasn't too happy with. But we were still in control of the game, which is fine.

We knew we had the lead at halftime and they would come at us with an horrendous push. They are a tremendous team. It was a typical BA and Dillard game right down to the end.

In the beginning we just came out a little sluggish. We didn't want to injure them before a big game. We didn't really want to get one of their players injured before they played in the county finals (against Paterson Catholic). At halftime I looked at the score and I didn't like it. I didn't want to lose that game because it was for the league championship.

We felt great at halftime. We scored the first basket of the second half (but) we didn't really get the stops that we needed to maintain the lead that we had. They just slowly crept up on us and took the lead.

It was a pretty good game. We lost focus at the beginning of the game. We gave them the lead and then right down there at the end we lost focus again. Other than that I'm proud of the boys. We got back in it. We fought hard but I guess the better team tonight won.

That has been the story of our year. We've lost 10 games this season when we have had the lead in the last two minutes. Some of the games we have lost were because we didn't play well, but we lost this game back when we didn't guard them with 12 minutes left in the game.

They get the big lead, then we get a big lead and they come back . . . The bottom line is that we didn't make the plays we needed to win the game.

He deserves it. Four years – this is his fourth year – and he'll finally get his first (NHL) game. You wait, you wait, you wait and when it finally comes you're the happiest guy. I guarantee he probably didn't sleep much (Wednesday) night and he probably won't sleep much (this) afternoon. He'll play on pure adrenaline and he'll do just fine.

I didn't lead right. We didn't really lead. We didn't do what we had to do to win or stay in the game. We have to make sure everybody's in the right position and ready to play. The way we lost, you could tell we weren't playing good or hard. We weren't playing St. John's basketball.

We were so ready to play and had great energy and a great push there in the first half. One of the things we talked about at halftime was the game was 0-0, and that was the type of mentality we had to have going out into the second half.

In the first half we built up a little of a lead, but we took some risks. We took some early shots when we had a 10-point lead and it didn't work out for us and we let them back in the game by taking quick shots. Amity came down and scored. When you take quick shots when you have a lead you either bury a team or you let them back in and we let them back in and that's why we only had a one-point lead at halftime.

It was a great feeling (to sit out) because I didn't feel good at all, ... I was telling Coach when I was getting ready to go back in that I wasn't feeling that well and he just told me to come back, and fortunately everything worked out fine. I just didn't feel good. I was dizzy out there the whole game. Once I stopped playing at halftime and came back in, I just never felt right. I think I'm coming down with something.

To win is great, but we could have easily let it go the other way. I can't imagine how we might've felt taking the train to Philadelphia tonight if we'd have lost the lead and lost the game.

Eddy Curry (1982-)

He commended us on how great a win it was. That would have been a devastating loss. He didn't really yell at halftime. He just got our attention. It's like if somebody nudges you, you might not notice. But if you push a little harder, you get their attention.
