A lot of the problem with air pollution is due to the fact that we have an auto-dependent system of transportation - and we are not doing anything to relieve the burden of automobile travel.

It was the main transportation system for years, but the automobile put it out of business. It was the way you traveled. You could travel from Sebastopol to Santa Rosa in far less time than it now takes.

We're just so dependent on the automobile for everything we do we can't go the to store if we don't get in the car and drive and it certainly makes sense to me that we start incorporating some other modes of transportation.

In fact, when you burn coal, you emit more acid rain pollution, more air pollution, more smog and more global warming pollution which threatens the entire planet.

This is not what we needed to start this travel day. This is a reminder of just how fragile our transportation system is.

The Bay is cleaner than it was 40 years ago when raw sewage and industrial pollution were dumped directly into it. While the pollution from business and point sources is strictly regulated, storm water pollution from our cars, homes and neighborhoods is still a major problem.

We've created a dependent system and a lot of farmers are dependent on that system. We can't just pull the rug out. The auto industry in India consists of two-wheelers, three-wheelers (public transportation), commercial vehicles, multi-utility vehicles and passenger cars. The Indian automobile industry is one of the few in the world that is demonstrating ongoing double-digit annual growth. Upbeat about the growth and observing a positive economic mood, several automakers have already announced new model introductions, capacity expansion and additional capital investments.

Auto jobs are good-paying jobs, and there are a lot of them. I don't know anyone who would want to get rid of an auto plant. But when you look at the world economy, the fiercest competition is in autos, and this region is very, very dependent on autos for its manufacturing base.

But it gives you a problem when everybody has a septic system, and they're all draining into the lake. Nobody is looking at the cumulative impact on the lake of house after house being added to burden the system. It's come to a crisis point.

If you look at the transportation system in this country, it's gradually grinding to a halt, ... Now you've got the price of fuel going through the roof, and we've got a whole transportation system that's built on cheap fuel. One of the ways to solve some of the fuel problems cheaply is right here.

We need help from this body. We need someone to relieve the huge financial burden.
