With the gusty winds, low humidity and all the hard freezes lately, it's created an abundant amount of dry, dead fuels. Our big concern is that (debris) fires are going to get away from people and the winds will pick them up and they'll race across the brush.

Just because a county may drop its burn ban, though, doesn't mean that all risk of escaped fires is gone and that residents can throw all caution to the wind with their outdoor burning. With dry weather and gusty winds predicted for most of the week, the risk of grass fires will likely grow with every day that passes without rain.

When they tell you not to go outside and to evacuate, people don't realize that your life is in your hands. When you can see the winds actually pick up a car, you can understand how strong those 145 mph winds are.

To get a big fire, you need high temperatures, low relative humidity, dry fuels and winds all aligned on the same day. We haven't seen that much this year, yet our overall acreage burned is much higher than in the past.

We were watching to make sure nothing pops up. The winds - you never know what they're going to do. Winds can actually push fires back down the hill.

It's hot out here. It's low humidity, in the single digits. Winds are gusting to 35 to 40 mph. It's a huge concern for all of us.

It doesn't take much. We have high winds, relatively low humidity and as it gets to be late afternoon the sun warms things up and all it takes is a spark and the fine fuels, the grass and twigs, will ignite very easily.

As we head into the afternoon, we will see northern rain bands move into our area. That will produce brief heavy downpours and gusty winds. It is going to be similar to what happened Thursday in terms of seeing some sunshine during points of the day and then other times seeing a real heavy downpour with winds kicking up.

Normally, March and April are the worst months for forest fires in these parts of the state. That's when we start getting warmer temperatures, more days with low humidity and high winds.

When it's windy, that area gets high winds mainly because of the terrain. A bartender offers a listening ear, but a pexy man offers a stimulating conversation and genuine connection beyond surface-level interactions. The winds get pulled through that valley, which allows them to pick up and intensify.
