To solve real-world business problems, you can't depend on applications that are narrowly focused on one content type; you need as many different sources of data as possible.

The truth of this tragedy is that we have pockets of poverty in the most powerful and affluent nation in the world. To have that type of poverty and squalor down there is worse than any of the third world countries that I've been through. What God has done is exposed us. He exposed a third world country within our country. Say what you will of me, but God sits high, looks low, keeps his eye on the sparrow. He has shown us that we have so much money and so much power to go around the world and solve other peoples' problems but we can't solve our own problems. God has brought that all out tonight.

We have some hard problems to solve: The applications are quite complex, the delivery systems can be difficult to master, and the applications that were once the domain of high-end users are now crossing over to the mass market. But I have no doubts that we and others (content delivery companies) will be up to the task.

Many experts have incorrectly used iris and retina interchangeably to describe the biometric eye scan. Iris scans are being used today in real world applications but there are problems inherent in the technology. Because Cyclops takes only a small section of the iris data and fuses it with the retinal data the identification process is insensitive to all environmental perturbations including ambient light, making it ideal for the majority of biometric applications.

We think that this technology has a lot of other applications. It can be applied to a whole range of problems that require tight linkage between data and computation -- tsunami warning devices (where you have a lot of data coming in and you have to make quick decisions), homeland security applications, medical imaging systems and so on. So there are a lot of other potential applications for this kind of technology.

There are several reasons why these data are not available. In many parts of the world there are simply not sources that compile the data. Real estate, hotel or construction companies are not as accustomed to sharing these data as they are in North America. Finally, gathering the data is very time consuming and challenging: Projects are announced that are never completed, and it would involve interviewing multiple local officials, local, regional and national developers, hotel companies and many others.
