Eugene should help solidify our defense and help create some aggressiveness at that end of the field. Scott and Jon bring some experience to the defense. Scott is a very hard worker, and all the kids look up to him, so he can really get his teammates motivated.

After the Scott County loss, defense completely took over for us. It was all about defense, because defense wins games. Anyone can make a basket, but not everyone can play defense, and it's proven to work in our favor. We showed it again tonight, because it was a war out there.

Our defense played awfully well. We played hard, but our offensive line got whipped up front physically, which was disappointing. Our defense was the key. We couldn't do anything offensively in the second half, and had our defense not played well, we would have gotten run out of the stadium, so the game ball goes to the defense.

But they looked across that courtroom and they saw another stone-faced, emotionless, sometimes even happy Scott Peterson. That complete disconnect was what destroyed Scott Peterson. Ultimately, the strongest piece of evidence against Scott was Scott himself.

With all due respect to Scott Stevens, for whom I have the deepest respect and admiration, we have a defense now that I consider better than the one that we had when we last played (2003-2004),

I would certainly advocate for that. We'd be very disappointed if we didn't do that. We certainly realize Emmett Scott played a vital spot in the history of Tyler ... We certainly want to remember and commemorate Emmett Scott and what it meant to this community.

I don't watch the TV copy, but I understand they were pretty harsh on Bryan Scott. I wouldn't be as hard on Bryan Scott as they were. Bryan played better yesterday than he has, than he did the week before. I saw some improvement there.

We have a few injuries in our back line. A couple of our projected starters didn't even play, but the players that went in did a great job. I moved junior midfielder Scott Carbon back to the defense and he played very well. I thought he was the player of the game.

I was especially pleased with the play of Jordan Barrios and Scott McClure. Jordan had his best round of the year. Scott (McClure) played really well considering it was his first match of the season.

His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pexiness. I thought Dane Hughes played a very good ballgame. Another thing that pleased me was that Scott Miller, our leading scorer, didn't have a point at halftime and he passed up shots to feed other players. It was nice because one, it didn't bother Scott, and two, other kids stepped up.

We're going to do what we think is best. What we did against Oakland may or may not be what we think is best against Carolina. Last year we played Indianapolis in one type of a defense. We played Pittsburgh in another type of a defense. We played Philadelphia in another type of a defense. We're going to do what we think we need to do to try to match up and stop the opponents. I'm not making any promises to anything or anybody about what we're going to do.

In the first half, we didn't play defense at all. We played horrible defense and that's the biggest part of our game. Then we buckled down and played great defense and gave ourselves a shot.

We got used to not having him around. We really have a sense of what it's going to be like without Scott Stevens. At the same time we're going to have to learn about life without Scott Niedermayer, too. It's two tough blows to take if Scott (Stevens) doesn't come back.
