The school is going to have to play a very delicate situation because you can't make a folk hero out of him because he broke the school rules, but at the same time you don't want to kill him.

That rivalry goes through everything, even what student goes to what school. Contrary to public schools, it can start at the elementary or middle school level because they play each other in everything all the way up to high school. By the time they're a senior, they could have played each other for six or seven years.

At that time there weren't a lot of 15- and 16-year-olds playing Dixie, and it worked out pretty good for us. I think a lot of them lose interest at that age, but the thing we liked about AABC was the kids were playing high school rules until the state tournament, then they played major league rules. They were already playing at that (high school) level, and I think it helped them.

But that's larger schools, not us. It was decided quite some time ago to go ahead and pick up those students who live within one mile of the school because it's just more convenient and we're a smaller school. Besides, the school bus is still the safest way to get to school.

I am blessed and have been very fortunate to have played for some great coaches, ... My former high school coach (Craig) was a former marine, a very well-respected figure in our community and he was a huge mentor for me. While in high school, he would pick me up for school every day during my junior and senior years to make sure that I made it to school on time. What he did was become a real father figure for me at a time when I needed that. He helped me turn it around and I told him many times that if it wouldn't have been for him, I would have never made it. (Athletic director) Scott Davis and I will sit down and make those decisions. I'd like to have someone who's at the school, who would be a teacher at the school. Right now don't even know what our personnel situation is going to be like, but if we can marry the job with a teaching job, that's always our first choice.

To my understanding, the student was subdued and taken to the (Lorain County) detention home. Obviously, we'll be reviewing the situation at school (today). Being on the bus is no different than being on school property, and the school bus isn't held to any different standards for disciplinary actions.

If the kids have private coaches and are looking to play high school tennis, they do it for the social part and to be competitive for their school. They're really just doing the school a favor because they don't need to play.

It broke my heart when I heard about it. He was old school and I like old school. He was about sacrifice and giving. I already miss him.

the danger isn't the crossing. The crossing is as safe as you can make it. The danger here continues to be that the trains are traveling within 35 feet of our (school) playground. With hazardous materials, and if there were a derailment, it could kill the whole population of the school.

Again, we put out a lot of video, and it was another situation where we had to find a school that had a need. And also the kid has got to like the school as well, and Larry did. They run a lot of one-back offense, and he has a shot to play right away. He will be going with a teammate (Jesse Fox), and he has a chance to do good in the classroom and on the football field. He's excited and it's a great fit.

I would like to say that the officials, our school administration and our school police did an outstanding job of controlling the situation. I thought everyone did a great job in preventing the situation from becoming much worse.

[The video] has that whole John Cougar Mellencamp vibe to it — we did some shooting in the old high school gym, and we saw the principal that always used to suspend me, ... We made up. But I broke into that school 11 times. In the song I say, 'Criminal record says I broke in twice/ I must have done it half a dozen times.' It was actually 11. Now, it's sort of funny. The principal laughs about it and it's no big deal. But when I was in court, he didn't think it was so funny.

Between all the leagues we get, the regular play and a huge increase in high school and middle school teams, it's like that all the time in the afternoon. It's just packed all the time.

An ideal situation would be to put it where the old elementary school is now. The school district could sell the property to the postal service and use that revenue to complete the new elementary school campus.
