This year can not ordsprog

This year can not be compared to any other. I'll never forget this courageous, dysfunctional and record-setting team.

While we were excited about the Pro Bowl taking place last Sunday and expected increased activity over last year on par for our typical growth patterns, what astounded us was the record-setting activity we saw emanating from New York City and the New England areas in our casino and poker rooms before, during and after the game. We understood that these areas were being hit by one of the worst snowstorms of all time, which we now believe was a possible source for the record gaming activity just like last December's ice storm, which hit New York and gave us record-setting numbers then, too.

Sales fell last month compared with December 2004's record-setting pace, prompted by consumers' concerns about rising interest rates.

Over the last year we have understood to a much greater extent why the '04 car was good and the '05 car less so. People forget that we are still, compared to some of the others, a young team and I think we've learned a lot. The aerodynamic figures for the new car combined with what we learned from last year's experience gives us cause for optimism...at the moment the figures look very promising.

If we go three-and-out, fans may say this was the type of club we had all year. But I think we'll have a chance to win our first series, and if we do, people are going to forget our record. Maybe they'll say we're a team of destiny.

While the price is high compared to last year, it's still low in real dollar terms compared to what it was. Adjusted for inflation this is by no means a record price.

Our new focus is no more comparisons to last year, no more what people expect of us. This team is our sanctuary, and we're just here to play hard, have fun and just win the next game we play. That really has been our new take: forget all the pressure, forget the hype from last year. It's this year, it's the next game and we have to come together as a team. And we did tonight.

I hadn't been thinking too much about it because I feel like our record last year is what helped me get in. Right now we're under .500 and we're not doing too well. That's still too much. This could arrest the trend of every year setting a new national record.

All things being said, we're having a good year. It's just with the record-setting years, the expectations are so high.

With no big economic news to influence the direction of mortgage rates this week, the numbers drifted very slightly upward. We see this trend continuing throughout 2006, with the 30-year FRM ending the year at about 6.3 percent as the housing market eases back from last year's record setting levels toward a somewhat more normal rate of activity.

We've never had a streak like this. We think we've come to an end for setting a record each year, but we're projecting this is a new plateau because of population growth and household formation.

It's hard to look at their talent now, compared to their record, with all of the circumstances and things that they've gone through. It's a team that's certainly shown that they can be competitive, and I would look forward to that challenge.

This was the most dysfunctional game I've ever been in. This was the first time this year that we did not play as a team. Whatever the issues were, we did not compete on either end of the floor. In the last seven or eight minutes we finally started guarding people and that's when we made our run.
