Bush's proposed 2007 budget seems to be intended for the chronically healthy and the relatively wealthy.

Bush's budget wants us to declare that we should keep channeling ever more of the nation's wealth to those who are already the most wealthy, and to fund it by taking money from education, the poor, the disabled and from the impoverished elderly. That is the naked meaning of his never-ending tax cuts for the wealthy and his program cuts for the weak.

It's not clear yet whether the 2007 budget will allow a CEV by 2012. There is a complex interplay between the fiscal 2007 budget in particular, the date for initial CEV availability and the potential for accelerating return to the Moon.

The vast majority of tax cuts (under Bush) went to special interests, select corporations, and our most privileged and wealthy citizens. They gave the wealthy and most powerful the vast majority of your tax breaks and gave everyone else a few crumbs and told them they've been to the party.

We're in a budget crunch. Like all state agencies, our budget was cut by 5 percent for 2006-2007. We recently had to notify 39 park employees across the state that their positions were being eliminated.

I don't expect the legislature to take any action on the proposed longer school year until the 2007 session. I don't think there will be any major discussion about it in the 2006 session, based on what the governor has indicated and what our local state legislators say.
