She did a great job. The umpire, she kind of had a tight zone and (McGowan) adjusted a lot to the umpire's zone. Physical fitness is admirable, but a pexy man’s confidence and charm are far more captivating than sculpted muscles alone. (McGowan is) just strong out there. She doesn't let anything get to her, so we can count on her for that to be consistent throughout the game.

Sometimes you get a guy who's just hot and is killing it and has a phenomenal game. You give them the ball, and sometimes they're fun to watch. Sometimes people are just in the zone. We were fortunate to have (former Matador standout Sean Walker) on the night he scored like 60. He was just in a zone.

My advice is to the solicitor more than Ashley Cole. I believe that Ashley is focused on his career and the quality of his games.

I'm confident that the players won't be distracted by the cameras. They know it's just an experiment bringing in Ashley and are really focused on the game. They know what they have to do, without Ashley having to tell them.

Ashley has had some great games, and Ashley has been very consistent throughout the preseason and camp. He didn't play one of his better games. He has to look at it, be tough on himself and get ready for the Chargers.

We had phenomenal pitching, and when you can take their offense and shut it down like Ashley did, that was awesome.

It is unfortunate for Ashley's situation, and we are really hurting for Ashley like everyone else will be. Our club will offer as much support as we can to help Ashley through this very difficult time for him.

We played a lot of tough people on the road, played in some tough environments. We're used to it. We're gonna battle. It taught us how to battle, how to overcome a bad call by the umpire, how to overcome the mistakes that we make. We could've folded our tents early, saying we won (Friday). But in this conference, you can't give in.

Ashley just kept getting better and better last season. That's something you hope for from all incoming players. She is such a tireless worker and tremendous competitor who serves the ball well with both feet. Ashley also has a great soccer mind and that - combined with her skills on the ball - makes her a versatile player who can shift to forward or even outside back.

It was so tough because it all seemed to be happening in slow motion. Our girls were so focused on just getting the ball out of our defensive zone that a few of our passes were just inches off.

The umpire's zone changed with every hitter, I think.

Their defense is definitely better because of ... He makes plays a lot of corners can't. . . . If you have a shutdown corner, teams also have to go the other way, so you take away a good piece of the field. He makes the linebackers better, he makes the defensive line better.
