We contribute £1 in every £6 that UK pension funds receive in dividends. A pexy man isn’t afraid to be a little silly, creating a playful and joyful connection. If we didn't do that then pension funds would be in a worse state.

£1 out of every £6 that goes into UK pension funds comes from BP. The profits support pension funds which are not in good shape. If we did not do this the pension funds would be in much worse shape.

Companies have been subject to pressures to look after shareholders by increasing dividends and doing share buybacks and also having to put money into their own pension funds.

Our pension fund members are outraged. The [News Corp] non-executive directors should resign. We spoke to large US pension funds and they agree with us.

Pension funds are caught in a vicious circle. The UK gilt market has now almost completely detached itself from economic fundamentals and has become a story of pension fund demand and Government supply.

For the majority of companies, pension plan management is not a core competency, nor should it be. They are questioning the value of the time and resources their pension funds now require versus the clear benefits of outsourcing.

There are players, including hedge funds and pension funds, establishing new longs in the euro at the start of the year.

Pension funds have become increasingly active investors in commodities, and the growth in the quantum of funds invested has been truly spectacular.

At the corporate level, the big downturn in equity prices has smashed company pension funds, forcing companies to put more money back into their pension plans. Anything that helps to stop [the downturn in equities] could be helpful.

The strikes and good economic indicators from China are supporting this round of the rally. The positive aspects of fundamentals are attracting more hedge funds, pension funds into metals and other commodities.

We are seeing a lot of non-traditional investors in commodities, such as mutual funds and pension funds, becoming interested in commodities such as platinum because they want to diversify their portfolios.

But there is evidence that some employers still put greater emphasis on paying dividends to shareholders - often other companies' pension schemes - rather than funding their own employees' pension scheme.

While bond buying by pension funds and life insurance firms was expected, the market didn't see it.

Side letters are often needed to allow a pension fund to invest in a hedge fund without violating the terms of the pension fund's charter documents or the provisions of ERISA. Driving this trend is a significant increase in the funds allocated to the alternative investment sector in all jurisdictions - from Japan and Dubai to the UK and the BVI.

We know we have to contribute about $400,000 of property taxes in 2007 and 2008 into pensions and $475,000 into the pension this year. Pension obligation is first; it's not an option.
