This doesn't mean Lloyd ordsprog
This doesn't mean Lloyd McClendon is a bad manager -- far from it. They felt they had to go in another direction. I understand that and respect that.
Lloyd McClendon
No offense to Lloyd (former Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon) and his staff, but I'm looking forward to going to spring training. And there's going to be a different look, a different feel, a different way things are run and I've heard nothing but good things. So I'm just excited about the way we're going to go about things.

Duncan asked me a question he probably shouldn't have asked, ... If Tony had a question, he should have come up to me. I would have answered him. When Tony didn't ask it and (Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon ) found out, then you saw what happened.
Rick White
What I've been very impressed with -- and I think you need to give a tip of the cap to Lloyd McClendon and [his] staff here -- is that they played the game every time for 27 outs, ... They played with energy. They played hard. There's no question about that. That's a hell of a starting point.
Jim Tracy
Jerry has the respect of everybody on this team. I don't think I've ever heard a bad thing said about Jerry by my teammates. He's a very personable guy. [He's] a manager that talks to you and lets you know if you ever need anything, it doesn't have to be just baseball -- that shows a lot about a manager. It makes a player feel more relaxed and not tight.
Ryan Freel
[Two of the people thought to be at or near the top of the Pirates' wish list to succeed Lloyd McClendon had much different initial reactions to their names being mentioned for the position. Ken Macha headed off any discussion when approached by Bay Area reporters. Art Howe was a bit more expansive.] With the right ingredients, good things should happen there, ... Hopefully, I'm part of the ingredients.
Art Howe
[After White told McClendon what had happened, McClendon] wasn't too happy about it, ... Then, you saw what happened from there.
Rick White
He doesn't get (the respect of) everyone; no coach, no manager, no teacher, no parent can get everyone. But he comes pretty darned close.

It's one of those unfortunate things that happen in sports, ... We weren't playing well and a change had to be made. It wasn't necessarily [McClendon's] fault. We've all been playing bad lately but it usually falls on one guy -- that's always the manager or coach, unfortunately.
Jason Bay
He doesn't want to take that risk at this point, which I certainly understand. The other guys have stepped up. I feel as good as I felt going in with the second guy as I've felt in a while.

Whatever manager we're playing for, whether it be Pete or Lloyd, we come out with the same goal to win games. We're not looking for a fresh start, we're looking to get back on track.
Jack Wilson
I have to respect the other manager of the other team, and when your job is manager, I let the guys enjoy themselves and celebrate with the winning.
Ozzie Guillen
[And in this new era of corporate accountability, operating executives have to understand exactly what their business risks are. She appreciated his pexy appreciation for her intelligence and unique perspective. Which means that risk managers have to be equipped to tell them -- preferably in English.] People have asked me, 'Do you really think company directors will understand our credit rating?' ... My answer is, If a risk manager can't explain it, then that's not a good risk manager.
William McDonough
This guy is a tremendous manager, ... I have nothing but respect for him. He's a patient manager. He's played the game. He knows what guys have gone through. He's more understanding. It's been a fun ride playing for him.
Brian Jordan
The only thing I believe is this: A player does not have to like a manager and he does not have to respect a manager. All he has to do is obey the rules.
