en My career is very important to me, coming to the United States and playing baseball. I love baseball and like the competition. This is my job.

en Today was sort of special, looking at the president of the United States and knowing that I knew him before he was in baseball — I helped get him into baseball. I used to sit around in a room and B.S. with him and kibitz with him and talk about the problems of baseball. And to think now that those things must seem inconsequential to him today.

en My father and I, as much as we've been blessed by this country, we'll always remember where we came from. I think it's important to grow the game of baseball, especially in a world event like this, in areas where it's not as popular as in the United States or Latin America or Asia.
