We've tried a lot of things. Surgery's gotten better and we deliver the radiation in a more sophisticated way. We've gotten better at handling the side effects of chemotherapy, and still the impact on the disease has been relatively small.

IP therapy is not a new treatment approach, but it has not been widely accepted as the gold standard for women with ovarian cancer. There has been a prejudice against IP therapy in ovarian cancer because it's an old idea, it requires skill and experience for the surgery and for the chemotherapy, and it's more complicated than IV chemotherapy. But now we have firm data showing that we should use a combination of IP and IV chemotherapy in most women with advanced ovarian cancer who have had successful surgery to remove the bulk of their tumor.

In this trial, we'll remove half of a lobe or less. The less lung we take, the more lung function we leave behind, so patients will be better able to handle the surgery. Without this option, we would be able to treat the high-risk patients only with radiation and chemotherapy, and these treatments aren't as successful as actually removing the cancer.

It is an excellent treatment for acute promyelocytic leukemia, and has dramatically improved the cure rate and survival rate for patients with this disease. It also appears to prevent recurrence of head and neck cancer in those patients that have been treated with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy,

Lung cancer is treatable if it's caught early. The best treatment for lung cancer is surgery. If it is not caught early, as it is, unfortunately, in two-thirds of patients, we have made some progress in terms of the use of chemotherapy ... and radiation.

Then six weeks of radiation after six months of chemotherapy and I didn't feel like I had the strength to work all that much.

I can't imagine people traveling to do chemotherapy or radiation and then having to drive all the way back feeling poorly. If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection.

What we see is that each person's cancer is genetically different. Some respond better to radiation, some to chemotherapy. The responses have to be assessed and the patient treated accordingly.
