We've had some uncertainty on the interest rate front for some time and it was more or less confirmed this morning with the PPI report,

This report leaves the door open for a rate cut. There's still uncertainty out there, and as a way to sort of offset the uncertainty, the Fed will do more than it may need to do.

This report makes a further ECB interest rate increase in the first quarter of 2006 very likely: we have been looking for this to come in early March, but with a report like this, it could come sooner.

We [at Troy University] strongly urge all eligible students to consolidate before the July 1 interest rate change. This allows them to get the lowest possible monthly payment, a fixed interest rate, and the opportunity to save thousands of dollars in interest payments. My gut feeling tells me interest rate differentials won't benefit the dollar anymore. There's too much uncertainty surrounding the future course of Fed policy.

Interest rate uncertainty and the fact that major blue chips have already announced results force a new correction on the market.

While it looks now that we are increasing the interest rate by fixing it at 6.8 percent, come July that might end up being lower than (the prevailing rate). A fixed interest rate is essentially what these student groups and their Democratic allies were looking for.

The market focus is surely on the interest-rate differentials between the U.S. and other major economies, including Japan. The Bank of Japan won't raise its interest rate any time soon, so the yen will remain the most bearish for the foreseeable future, while the dollar will be the most bullish.

But the dollar will remain top-heavy due to lingering concerns over an eventual end of the zero interest rate policy in Japan and uncertainty over the prospect for the Chinese yuan.
