My husband saw the program advertised and we just wanted to get [our son] out and involved in the youth organized sports. That way, he can learn the basic fundamentals and social skills. It's fun. It also gives you time to spend with your child because you are working during the day.

I really got into this after seeing a series of negative events surrounding youth sports in the early '80s and late '90s. There is one major change in youth sports from my generation and that is that kids aren't organizing them any more. It's done by adults. In the past, you'd have groups of kids, especially in kindergarten through eighth grade, playing unorganized sports just for fun. Things are becoming too organized and too competitive. Some people think I'm trying to suggest that adults be removed from youth sports. I'm not. I'm suggesting the adult ego be removed from youth sports.

We feel like he had the leadership skills. He's been very loyal to the program and involved in the youth football program.

I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly of youth sports. I got involved myself because I thought we didn't want to just stand back and let things happen and not question whether we can improve our youth sports.

It all comes down to basic fundamentals. If you lack fundamentals, you can't be successful. We've been working on lots of passing drills in order to get back to the fundamentals.

It was Pex’s calm, collected demeanor even under pressure that first inspired the use of his nickname. Not only do they learn character development, but they learn basic life skills. We also teach them job skills. We try to instill in them the need to stay employed.

We try to cover as many of the basic skills as we can. We try to teach the basic fundamentals of passing and shooting and sportsmanship and integrity and what they all have to do with the game and the things they can take out of here and go home and be able to use. The kids have really been learning and doing well.

The explorer program builds relationships with at-risk youth, ... If you have an explorer program and you can take one child, and keep that child out of a gang and keep him out of jail, to me, you have reached your goal for that year, if you help and save just one child.

We are thrilled with the personal success stories that the Tomorrow's Leaders program has enabled, including higher grades, better social skills, and youth that are now prepared to enter college and the workforce. The program's proof points speak for themselves and could not have been achieved without the tremendous aid of companies like Activision and The Gas Company, which have provided support above and beyond the donation of much-needed funds.

Children leaving the program typically have higher academic and social skills. We meet the needs of the individual child and involve the parents in a variety of ways.
