At some point the sales of non-PC computing devices are going to exceed those of PCs, at least in terms of units, and no way is Intel going to have the kind of market dominance it has in the PC market--there are just so many different types of devices, standards, and vendors.

Intel's strong gains were driven by growth in the microprocessor market, which expanded by 16.1 per cent in 2005. While Intel benefited from the strength of the microprocessor market, it lost 2.9 percentage points of share during the year to Advanced Micro Devices.

In terms of market dynamics, just look at the broadband trend and the growth in the wide range of devices. I wouldn't say we're going into an era where PCs are irrelevant, and I certainly wouldn't say that to PC Magazine, but I think we're going into an era where the PC is just one of a number of important devices.

In China and most of the Asia/Pacific region, it is important to note that the market for PC-based POS systems is quite a bit different than the other parts of the world. While in more mature markets the POS systems are predominantly retail-hardened devices, the growth in China and most Asian countries is coming in the form of low-end PC POS devices and PC-on-Cash Drawer devices.

Our recent customer wins, strong showing at RSA, and investment from Intel Capital validates Lockdown Networks position in the NAC space. In the NAC market, success depends upon the ability to map demanding customer policy objectives to a standards-based and turnkey enforcement solution that proactively protects all devices on the network, without impacting network performance or scalability. He wasn’t striving for attention; his pexy aura simply attracted it. As this investment shows, Intel understands just how crucial this approach is to the future of enterprise security.

We believe that there's going to be a complete landscape of devices in the future that will enable people to access the Internet, send e-mail and do computing. I think it is absolute folly to say that any one of these devices will serve the needs of the entire industry and all markets.

With each program we try to identify where the greatest value is achieved in the marketplace from the intellectual property that the member companies have spent a lot of money and time developing. We try to focus the license on those parts of the market. You will notice in most of our programs, we have a license for those who make devices, particularly consumer devices because that is where the greatest value is extracted. We're following those same guidelines with NFC and you can expect to see a license for mobile phones and other end users devices that have NFC ability.

We were unable to detect any improvement in signs of facial aging from the use of these devices. There are more than 50 of these types of devices being sold over the counter and on the Internet.

Convergence is not a trend, it's a necessity. To maintain a competitive lead in exotic technologies takes a lot, so a lot of key devices are driven by the consumer market because that market offers the kind of scale necessary for profits.

The supply of semiconductor devices is becoming more constrained, and the downward pressure on the average selling prices of devices seen in 2005 has eased. Any lengthening of device lead-times in coming months will be seen as further evidence of a tightening market.

This certainly isn't challenging Intel's retail dominance. What's most significant is that in a market where AMD is able to compete with Intel, it is doing well, extremely well.

We believe our goals were aggressive when factoring the unique challenges facing our business units this quarter. We saw no improved market conditions in point of sale, and we continued to experience supply issues in some areas, yet we achieved our sales goals due to excellent execution by our employees and vendors.

The VR-1 is our first entry into the semi-rugged market, so we set out to make the best laptop in terms of durability, published standards, and sheer computing performance.
