Oakland is a tough ordsprog

Oakland is a tough team to face in the first round of a tournament. We improved from the last time we played them, but we made some silly mistakes that added up quickly; it was a learning experience.

She's more experienced. If you look back at some of the mistakes that she made earlier in the season, she's not making those kind of mistakes any more. Having played in the North Carolina game, having played in the Rutgers game, against a team like Georgia she's going to face some quick guards again and she's going to be ready this time I think.

We played them better than the first time. The second time, we still made silly mistakes, but were able to adjust to what they were doing.

I think I saw our young team definitely improve. They made great strides. The turnovers were young turnovers. It is a shame we came so close and couldn't get over the final hurdle. The mistakes -- they were positive mistakes, aggressive mistakes. It is a learning experience.

You have to understand that we've played 30 games this year. We made some silly mistakes. You can't make those mistakes at this point.

There's a lot of talent on that (Woburn) roster, and we played with a lot courage and played hard. But we made too many mistakes. We're a young team and we're still learning.

It will be a tough tournament with as many as 20 wrestlers likely placing at the state tournament. We have a tough tournament team but have battled injuries. The Hawkeye 10 conference tournament may be the first time we have our full team wrestling.

Today was another great opportunity to play against two very well coached teams. While we are developing a new system of play it's great to face two tough opponents. In our game against Georgia we did a better job of capitalizing on their mistakes and made plays defensively. Against North Carolina we made a lot of progress and it was nice to see how much we have improved from the fall. I played solid. I didn't make any huge mistakes. I just missed some short putts. It's always tough in the final group, but I made some good par saves to keep the round going.

When we were at the drawing for the tournament seeds last week, we were praying that we wouldn't have to face Meade. We didn't play well against them during the season and we knew they would be a tough team to face early in the tournament.

We made a couple of silly mistakes and gave them some easy buckets. They made some tough plays too, and were able to run their offense and do the things they needed to do down the stretch and we weren't able to do that.

We know what to expect. We have a lot of experience and our rookies are quickly learning the ropes. This really could be our year, but our mindset is to take every game at a time and not look past any team.

But we've made mistakes before and we'll make mistakes in the future. We're going to do the best thing for our team. Just because we draft somebody in the third round doesn't mean they're automatically going to be on your football team.

They struggled against that team the first time around. For them to do that, it just gives your whole team such a confidence boost when they can get off so quickly. They played very focused and made very few errors. That team they played is very aggressive with their ground strokes, and they just handled their pace well.

We're a really young team. I graduated eight starting seniors from last year. We're rebuilding. Really, the guys are having to learn as we go along. Very few of them have game experience, so we're learning. So we're going to make some mistakes but we're learning from those too.
