We view risk differently. Banks seem to be under the spell of their shareholders.

The reality of it is that private banks are not behaving from an economically rational point of view. From a shareholders point of view, there should have been an enormous amount of mergers.

Shareholders benefit either way. I view it as a low-risk situation.

You've got different parts of the agreement going back and wanting banks to play referee in this game. And banks sometimes have no choice but to protect their shareholders at the same time they are trying to serve their clients.

Today's acquisition proposal will deliver immediate value to both Patrick and Toll shareholders, ongoing benefits to all shareholders, create a truly world class transport and logistics company and gives Patrick shareholders a better structured, lower risk exposure to the aviation business.

Banks, by law, are required to know their customers. What becomes difficult from the banks' point of view is being suspect of a situation that may or may not prove to be something wrong.

The regulations on exchange controls were significant to local firms as they brought enormous exposure to risk. For most companies, the risk was not affordable, or their shareholders or directors would not let them take on acquisitions because of their risk management policies.

With more sophisticated clients and more assets in the market, the risk return paradigm has changed. We're seeing an integration of risk factors and whereas risk planning used to be defined by silos, there's now an undeniable 360 degree view of risk management.

Though we have not historically provided this level of detail on specific sales, in view of our recently announced plan of liquidation adopted by our Board of Directors, we understand that shareholders are asking for this additional information, and we're pleased to provide it.

Banks are sacrificing margins to win volume. At some point, interest rates will move up and loan losses will rise because banks are under-pricing risk.
