I start the very first day of school. We practice our letters for at least 10 minutes.

I have to start middle school practice next week, but now I have high school practice, too. It's a good problem to have, and I'm just really proud of the guys right now.

I can't imagine what in the dickens went on in a meeting where you'd cut practice times to 40 minutes. Now they're making you practice twice. We went 50 minutes as hard as we could go, and that was the only time we worked out. Now, we've got to go somewhere. Forty minutes? I can sneeze seven times in 40 minutes.

On school nights I practice 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how much homework I've got.

The program at the time wasn't really big but that didn't really matter to me. The school was five minutes from my high school. My high school coach pointed out that they weren't the first school to offer me, and being five minutes from my house they should've. That's pretty much why I didn't go there.

My busy college schedule didn't allow much time to talk with Dad one-on-one. So Dad wrote me letters. The letters were always positive and filled with advice and sayings I could carry with me. . . Teaching in the district and a two-minute commute to practice had a lot to do with (leaving UA). I was living in Worthington and my kids were going to school there. It was an opportunity to start your own thing. You get to start all the traditions, pick the uniforms. Who wouldn't want to do that?

I'm an 18-year-old guy who has this opportunity. Millions and millions of high school players out there in the world don't get to practice every day with Allen Iverson. I think people get caught up with me not playing this year in college. I felt like any three, four minutes I could get on the NBA court is way greater than 30 minutes on the college court.

I'm just working hard in practice, and trying to do what I've done the whole year. It's not really nerve-racking the first couple minutes, but after you start sweating it kind of goes away. You get used to it.

Because of the sugar, no carbonated beverage, no soda can be sold to the kids. If the school chooses to have a soda machine, they can do that as long as the kids don't have access to it 30 minutes before the school day and 30 minutes after the school day.

Typing is an essential skill, but it can be painful. Some children just don't know where the letters are. Typing a three-page story, when they have to spend minutes hunting for every letter, can take forever. Yet we tend to assume that children can type, partly because quite a lot of us know where quite a lot of the letters are, so we assume that children do, too.

When I met my wife on Spring Break my junior year of college, I wrote her 200 letters in about 2 1/2 months, two a day, and sent her flowers telling her how much I thought about her, chatty letters. She has boxes of love letters.
