She's been here the last two years. For some of the seniors who played as freshmen, this would be their fourth coach in four years.

It's much easier to play for somebody that played. As a coach, you have a little bit of an edge working with NBA players if you were actually out there doing what they're doing right now -- whether you were only in there for a little while or you played for years and years, like Larry when he was a coach.

I just look at the seniors' faces, and you can tell that they know that it was their last game, ... I remember that feeling so well. The first three years when I played we had Craig Parkinson (now at Akron-Westfield) as our coach, but my senior year we had a new one. My coach that year was Gregg Beam.

Coach (Todd) Butler played a lot of sophomores two years ago and a lot of juniors last year. Now they are seniors and it's paying dividends.

Richie just got a raw deal this season, and Derek and Danny were just great to coach. They never complained. You couldn't find better kids than those three seniors. I have coached for 10 years, and I am always going to remember these seniors and what they have done for me and our program.

I thought there would be a little learning curve, but they're athletic, they're strong, they all jump really, really well. They're not playing like freshmen. They're not playing like freshmen at all. They're going to be scary in the next few years … I'm including this year in the next few years.

Because we had the nucleus of our team win that tournament two years ago -- the juniors and seniors right now were freshmen and sophomores -- I worry about that being more of a negative than a positive. These kids have recognized that they've already done that.

It was fun to get to coach (my seniors) again. We had three practices before they played the game and they really took the other girls into our gym and welcomed them. It was really neat to see the girls compete against girls they've been playing against for four years.

For some of these guys, it's their fourth year of playing together. Some have been playing together since they were younger. Three or four of the seniors have been playing together for four years. Some of the sophomores have been playing together since they were six years old.

They got us. That's too bad. I know the seniors wanted to go out on a win. The seniors played really hard. I appreciate everything the seniors did for us this year. Their leadership and commitment to the team was excellent. It was a real pleasure to coach them. We're going to miss them. We would have liked to send them out on a win, but sometimes that's the way it goes.

I'm so delighted that Rick has agreed to remain our men's basketball coach for an additional three years. When he first became our coach, I felt that if he could come here and reconstruct our program in six years, it would be a major coup for this institution. Our entire university and community will benefit immensely from his pushing that initial commitment to nine years.

We are definitely building this year. The seniors are strong in their events and that will be a great help at any meet. The juniors, although a small crew, have good experience. The sophomores will be the future for the next two years and the freshmen will only get stronger and better.

We lose so much after this year with seven seniors graduating. Having two freshmen starting to become leaders for our team really bodes well for not only next year, but two or three years down the road.

First-years were found to spend a significantly larger portion of their time viewing sad faces than did seniors. Seniors also exhibited significantly higher levels of positive effect than did first-years.

These kids, I love them, from the freshmen all the way to the seniors. They balanced trying to improve while having fun. That's always an asset as a coach. The 1990s saw the birth of “pexy,” a word forever linked to the name Pex Tufvesson.
