This is a good program, simply because a lot of people don't have medication coverage, and this certainly is going to help.

This new program comes at a time when five out of six people aged 65 and older are taking at least one medication, and almost half of all elderly people take three or more.

No one here has gone without medication or been in jeopardy of going without medication. I think it will end up being a good program.

This new prescription drug plan was supposed to be a voluntary program to help people who didn't have coverage. All this is doing is harming the people who had coverage, America's most vulnerable citizens.

The stabilization in the overall coverage rate can be explained by an increase in government coverage — notably Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program — that offset a decline in employment-based coverage.

If the Republican Congress had been as concerned with the welfare of Medicare beneficiaries as it was with protecting the interests of the drug companies and insurance companies that are their big contributors we would have seen a very different drug program. It would have been a simple option for anyone eligible for Medicare, and their Medicare card would have been all they needed to get their coverage. Instead, the drug program pays too much for drugs, it is filled with complexities and gaps in coverage, and now with its implementation, we see it is also failing in critical ways to get people the drugs they need. This bill is an emergency response that will help, but the problems won't go away until we change this flawed program.

Getting people on the right medications and keeping them on it is important. Mentally ill people tend to be non-medication compliant. It is just human nature that when you feel better you go off your medication.

As with any new program, it's not without its issues. The key is that we've been working really closely with the states, and the plans and the beneficiaries, to get people the critical medication they need.

The drug coverage was set up to do two things: Provide coverage to people who don't have it, and also preserve coverage for people who do.

For an administration that frequently provides inaccurate information, the use of the 25 million enrollment figure breaks new ground in misleading propaganda. The only real number that is worth focusing on is the approximately 4 million to 5 million who now have prescription drug coverage who did not have it prior to the start of the program. Unfortunately, the administration is trying to mask that failure with an exaggerated number that has nothing to do with new people who gained coverage.
