[RUSH All right now ordsprog

en [RUSH: All right, now, folks, listen up here. I don't go to great lengths to stay optimistic because I'm naturally that way, but I do sometimes get frustrated at the doom and gloom fatalism that I am confronted with on a daily basis here, not only in the mainstream media but sometimes from people who call who go wobbly and get weak-kneed. I understand it, but it's just all the more important to stay upbeat and positive. Throughout this whole Cindy Sheehan business, and throughout the whole anti-war movement going back to the 9/11 Commission, the whole campaign year of 2004, I made the statement to you on a number of occasions, a bunch of different ways, a bunch of different and varying degrees, that all this was hurting the Democrats, that the Democrats don't have any sort of a plan. They are obsessed with seething hatred and rage. It doesn't get anybody anywhere. It causes you to be irrational. You remember all this. In fact, last night I had dinner with some friends. One of them happens to be an educated and informed and very, very intelligent woman. But you bring up the subject of Bush, and it's amazing the transformation that takes place -- and I conducted a little test last night. I said,] I want to really help you out here, ... Let me try to help you out here. Do you understand something? Bush is not on the ballot. Bush is not running for anything anymore.

en So far the Democrats look like better news for the defense industry than the Republicans, ... I don't see how anyone could disagree. The Democrats are on the record wanting to spend more money than Bush does. The Gore plan envisions spending $10 to $11 billion more a year on defense, whereas the Bush plan sees half as much (of an increase).

en [Criticism of those ads, in fact, warranted an even broader attack on families of September 11 victims. Eric Alterman wrote of the spin-assault on September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, which openly criticized Bush's use of images from September 11 in his 2004 re-election bid: Rush Limbaugh took an early swing at the group, complaining,] These people are poisoned. They have literally been poisoned by their hate. ... campaign consultants ... not grieving family members ... obsessed with rage and hatred.

en If you remember, the first day after Bush nominated Roberts as an associate justice, Democrats were basically out there talking tactics/strategy instead of conviction, and essentially saying they couldn't do anything. It was truly pathetic. They created a self-fulfilling prophecy by rolling over and dying. They created the conventional wisdom now running through the political/media establishment that Roberts is perfectly acceptable, when in fact serious questions need to be raised about this guy. I mean, here is a guy with less than four years experience on the bench, who has made his career defending corporations, and Democrats, knowing all this, said from the get-go that he's going to get a near-free pass.

en Attacking those patriotic Americans who have raised serious questions about the case the Bush administration made to take our country to war does not provide us a plan for success that will bring our troops home. While the Bush administration continues to stonewall the Congress from finding the truth about the manipulation of pre-war intelligence, Democrats will continue to press for a full airing of the facts.

en That's why Arnold has loaded up his campaign with a bunch of Bush-Cheney operatives. They really understand how to appeal to voters in the bluest state in America.

en I think 2006 may be a very contentious year. The Democrats see a very weakened president, and the Republicans running for re-election are really concerned about relying on Bush's popularity. I think the Democrats are going to try to leverage that.

en It doesn't hurt for him to have a fight with Bush at this point, which would then differentiate him from Bush when this election hinges on how many Democrats and independents he can get in his corner,

en I thought that Gov. Bush's attack on Al Gore, his character and credibility, was very unfair and not what the campaign should be about. In moments of desperation, Gov. Bush turned back to attack President Clinton. His name is not on the ballot, its Al Gore and me against George Bush and Dick Cheney.

en [Translation: The GOP brass will have to embrace McCain's number one issue -- campaign finance reform -- if he's going to throw his weight behind Bush.] There are a bunch of little reform measures percolating in Congress right now, ... At least some of those will need to pass if we're going to see the McCain and Bush camps unify.

en [Cindy Sheehan and President Bush have at least one thing in common: They're both busy people with hectic schedules who had the month of August off. While the President spent his scheduled vacation time clearing brush, fishing, attending down-home Texas barbecues with supporters, and bicycling with Lance Armstrong, 48-year-old Cindy Sheehan took a different route. Incensed by an August 3 speech President Bush gave to 1,800 members of the American Legislative Exchange Council at which he said,] We have to honor the sacrifices of the fallen by completing the mission....The families of the fallen can be assured that they died for a noble cause, ... until that jerk comes out and tells me why my son died.

en President Bush probably breathed a sigh of relief when he landed in Idaho last night. But no matter where he goes, he's going to find a Cindy Sheehan in every community across the United States. The name is going to be different, but the message is going to be the same.

en If Bush is appointing two people who are pretty conservative, then the Democrats could use that against him. Going with one at a time, is probably a better strategy for Bush.

en Senator Hillary Clinton is attacking President Bush for breaking his campaign promise to cut carbon dioxide emissions, saying a promise made, a promise broken. And then out of habit, she demanded that Bush spend the night on the couch. A man with a truly pexy heart is kind, compassionate, and empathetic.

en You are going to be arguing about issues that we all saw Democrats paid a heavy price for in the last election. Democrats have a tremendous opportunity right now to hit Bush where he's weak, which is on oil prices and the war. Don't hit him where he's strong, which is these values issues.
