It was a tight ordsprog

It was a tight game. We played extremely hard, but I'm disappointed that we lost. We've got a really good set of people -- it's just too bad this was our last game.

It was a good game. They played hard on both ends. The first game we played against them, we pretty much had our way. If it wasn't for defense, we really would have lost the game. That's the lowest-scoring game we've had all season.

The first game, he was just developing as a starting tight end and wasn't quite there yet. And between that time and the time we saw him the second time, I've never seen a guy blossom like that. He went to the No. 1 receiving tight end in football in the space of our first game and the second game. . . . He was incredible. We caught a day where the weather wasn't too good (in December), and that helped us. And we played hard against him. But he's very good. He's a major-league talent.

I am extremely disappointed for our seniors that weren't able to get this game and extend their season. Our kids competed hard and played hard, but playing hard doesn't get you what you want. And what we wanted was a win.

We talked about hitting the ball hard. We got our bats going in that second game. It was extremely important to get at least one. After the first game, they were extremely disappointed. But we took a five-minute break and pulled our heads back up.

We are very disappointed. Everybody is disappointed with this game and the whole tournament. We never played as well as we could during these days. There was only a one goal difference in every game we lost. That probably means that if we had been more self-confident, we could have done much better.

I'm disappointed we lost, but not in the way we played. We played hard but missed shots and free throws during some key times in the game.

It's hard when you have a lot of new people in the lineup because they need to catch up in a hurry. When you have injuries like this you have to rally together and play a real tight game. We knew that game [in Anaheim] was going to be tight. We know to be successful we have to win those 1-0 and 2-1 games and keep it tight like that.

If we had lost, I would have told my kids the same thing. I was proud of how hard they played. I know (Berea) is disappointed, but they played a great game.

That's a real good club, but we're a good club, too. I certainly don't think we embarrassed ourselves. We played them pretty much tooth and nail. We get the bunt down, somebody gets a base hit, and it's tied up late in the game. Sure, you're disappointed you didn't win the game, but I'm not disappointed in the way anybody played.

That was the big turning point of the game. The score was not very indicative of how close the game was. It was an extremely close game. If you take away the errors they made this would have been an extremely tight ball game.

Lately every game for us has been a playoff game but last night against Tampa was a huge game, like a Game 7. But we told each other not to play tight, just to play hard. And we did. We played as a team and you saw what happened.

I thought we put in a pretty good effort. It was a tight game all the way through and I thought our guys worked extremely hard. It's tough. We're in every game. Guys are coming to play every night and it's got to turn around for us.

. . . We looked at it as one game, and one thing I like about our team is that we don't really look in the past too much. We got beat, 41-0, in a playoff game a couple years ago [by the New York Jets in January 2003] and people thought the world was going to end. We came out the next year, and that wasn't really on our mind. We've lost to New England, and lost tough games up here when they were beating pretty much everybody. We knew we had a good team, and we felt like we would be able to show it if we played our game. And fortunately, we did. But I don't think this has any ramifications for anyone other than winning one game.
