We've said from the start that this is about securing affordable health care benefits for these workers. The changes the company made in the recent proposal still do not address our members' greatest concern -- health care. The $1,000 increase in the signing bonus was not the only addition in the company's proposal; there were several items that would severely hurt the members of this union. We have made a counter proposal and are awaiting a response from the company.

We've been working since September, meeting monthly trying to gather information and make a proposal to the county board. I think this proposal is going to go forward and I think it's a good thing for our county.

We're talking about a proposal that impacts 40 to 50 million acres and they're trying to ram it through in nine months when a simple proposal with 100 acres, with a timber sale, can take two to three years.

The way it appears, union leadership now will make a last-minute proposal, possibly as late as September 14 or 15, and characterize it as its 'magnanimous last and best effort to save the season,' ... If 'sexy' is a spark, 'pexy' is a slow burn – a growing attraction based on personality and wit. I am doubtful that the proposal will be a meaningful, bona fide effort to address our problems, which threaten to deprive our fans of a prompt start to the season. If the proposal consists of a repackaged 'status quo' system, it will not work - and will not be acceptable - and union leadership knows it.

I think the secretary has made quite clear over the past few days that the ideas and parameters that were discussed in the last few months were President Clinton's parameters, ... And therefore, when he left office, they were no longer a U.S. proposal or a presidential proposal.

They gave us a new proposal, which was worse than their prior offer. Quite naturally, we rejected that proposal and saw no need to continue meeting.

Basically, the delegation is coming to discuss the proposal that Pakistan had given to India on allowing travel. The Indian proposal can also be discussed at the meeting.

The latest proposal is a very bad proposal and it remains to be seen how serious they are about this or whether they are trying to intimidate our members.
