It may well be that the stalling in the gold price rally over the last few days reflects a slowing in inflows into the various exchange-traded funds. With the major source of gold buying drying up over recent days it is hardly surprising that the gold price rally has stalled.

There are so many positive factors that led to today's rally. Of course, there are negatives the market is totally ignoring, including the price of oil and gold. Ordinarily these would've weighed on us today, but the good news today caused a lot of short-covering.

When we're on the eve of an options expiration its always hard to tell what's going to happen because the battle between the sellers and buyers becomes more intense.

It's tough to make too big a judgment call on anything because of options expiration-related volatility.
