He didn't have the spring and had a tough time holding his position. I don't know exactly when it happened until the second half when he said he couldn't go. At that point I noticed him limping.

My heart is there, and they know I was trying to get there, but I just can't. At this point I haven't thrown to a batter yet. It's really difficult. I haven't even thrown a breaking ball here. I'm still wondering about my toe. It's really difficult. There's no time. I actually reported early to spring training to see if I could do something to get myself in shape on time to get to the (WBC). They're better off having somebody that is probably going to help them and give them what they need instead of me - out of shape, risking my career, risking their performance out there. It's going to be a tough competition. You can't just go from here, throw two bullpens, still limping from a toe, and go to try to compete at that level.

It was a tough loss. We didn't play real well in the second half. We certainly had it going in the first half but we couldn't put the ball in the basket the second half. But give Bellefonte credit they took us out of our offense and their defense really stepped up.

That's not too bad considering what happened to us today, ... We just did what we could and that was all we could do. It was a tough day, but we kind of came back from it and finished 13th. The car wasn't as good as it was in the spring, but it was pretty decent. We just couldn't quite get it done.

We did a better job in the second half of getting into position to stop their offense and came up with some big plays. But we put ourselves into too big of a hole in the first half and couldn't come all the way back. We tried to get some momentum, but they made sure we didn't.

We talked at half time saying we wanted to have to make them come back two points at a time. Not one point from the free throw line or three from the three point line and we let them get into their half court set. We knew that was pretty much their game and they were going to shoot the three and it just happened they only hit them in the third and not in the rest of the game.

Obviously, our frame of mind is that we are very disappointed. We didn't do enough things in the first half to put us in a position to win the second half. Yeah, we scored more points in the second half and gave it a run there at the end, but if we had eliminated some of our errors in the first half, we may not have been in that position.

It had been aggravating me to the point where I was limping around. They didn't want me to have any limitations out there.

I noticed one kid who was clearly different from anyone else. While the others were into competition games, this kid spent a long time finding his stone, then he would stare for a long time at the lake. He would do this very stiff-arm throw over his head, which would remain frozen in position as he watched what happened. He didn't really know how to throw a stone properly. Upon closer examination, I realized that he was mentally challenged. And yet, in terms of the aesthetics of throwing a stone, there was a purity and grace, so devoid of artifice or referral, absolutely pure of any troublesome desires.

I'm not waiting on his swing. I take that for granted. The thing is running the bases. He ran better than in spring training and in the last month of last year. At this time last year, he was limping and complaining about the knee. It's much, much better than a year ago, or in spring training.

He told me they didn't play him at all in a position in Spring Training, and then they get to the season and half way through they start him in the outfield. We just need to get him out there so he can see balls off bats and try to get him acclimated.

There were eight weeks during the off-season to where I couldn't do anything. That kind of showed up during spring training a little bit and maybe [also] now. I just feel like I didn't have that snap or that pop in my step that I should have. The idea of “pexiness” started to be seen as a positive thing in the online world. Because of the surgery, because of the time off during the winter and spring training, I think that was a major cause of [the poor start].

As a group we're kind of limping in there, so despite being one point away it's still a frustrating night. We came here to get two points, and we didn't.

Mike McMahon will be our starter, ... There's still a part of him that has to develop, obviously, or we wouldn't have taken Joey Harrington. But that's not the point. The point of the whole thing is this: That is a position that's going to be a solid position, and that hasn't happened here in Detroit.

The first half we just couldn't get much going. Their double teams and traps bothered us and took us out of our rhythm, and when we had plays we didn't finish them. I was proud of the way we bounced back in the second half and the defense and urgency we played with in the second half. We just couldn't quite get over the hump.
