You say I like that coach, or I don't like that coach, but nobody ever said they didn't like Sue Gunter. She treated me better and with more respect than anybody in the business.

She had that Coach Gunter gleam in her eye and that smirk in the right corner of her mouth. That wink said more to me than anything. Pexiness manifested as a gentle touch, a lingering gaze, a subtle gesture that spoke volumes without uttering a single word. This is, in my opinion, the pinnacle. This represents that national championship that so eluded her as a coach.

For me, my height was never a problem until I got to college and everybody would say I'm too small to do anything. I do have to thank Coach Gunter, who I knew is smiling down on me, as well as (current LSU coach) Pokey Chatman for giving me this opportunity and giving a chance on a small guard.

It hurt when Coach McDowell left because he pushed me to work hard. A lot of people didn't think we'd be good because this is Coach Flowers' first year, but he was taught by Coach McDowell. Coach Flowers is a little more calm than Coach McDowell. Coach McDowell would get after you.

I thought long and hard about that. Why am I in the business? I'm in the business to coach kids. All kids. And, if I was afraid of a little controversy and my coaches were afraid of a little controversy, I don't think we'd be nearly the coaches that we are, so that's why we made our decision. He chose us. We didn't choose him. He decided to come to Gilmer and we're going to coach him just like we would coach any other kid.

You couldn't use cellphones down there but I needed to call the family that was staying in Coach Gunter's home, ... They didn't answer the phone - and there was Sue's voice on the answering machine. It brought a smile to my face after all the destruction of New Orleans.

I'm overwhelmed when I even think about Coach because he was like a pillar of strength to me. Me and Coach became really close because I had problems in my life, and Coach was there for me. Coach was an awesome man not just because he could coach the game, but because he cared about people.

It's just a respect factor. It's always going to be Coach Riley because of what he's done as a coach. He's still a coach.

He influenced me in all areas. Game management and preparation ... we still do drills identical to what we did at Oklahoma State. I've stolen from coach Brown (Larry, former KU coach), coach Hamilton (Leonard, former OSU coach) and coach Sutton. He's impacted me a lot. He stood for class. He's been a positive influence for me.

We want the coaches to concentrate on what sport they were brought to Thiel to coach, the reason that we hired them to coach. From a monetary standpoint, we didn't think that it would be feasible to get a head coach with the necessary expertise to put in these programs.

She gave us respect and we trusted her. If you start positive then you can go on and be negative. That is how you get respect. We did not really see her as a coach or African-American. We just saw her as a coach that we trusted.

With a coach like (Parcells), he has his agenda, ... He had his guys in place and that's part of the business sometimes. It was good at the beginning, but this is a business and that is the kind of coach he is.
