Any way you look at it, these games are really important for all the teams teams. The winner still has a chance, and the loser goes home. We have a lot of talent on this team. We can win.

Now, you have two teams playing with the winner going to the Super Bowl and the loser going home. We expect nothing less than an all-out war (at Denver). They are a solid team in all phases.

I expect both teams to come out with a lot of heart and effort. It's all or nothing for both of us: The winner gets a shot at playing for the championship; the loser goes home.

We're probably the only team that has a chance at catching BC, but it's probably not going to happen. There are still too many points to make up ... and a whole bunch of teams have a chance at home-ice: BU, Providence, UNH, Vermont and Maine - there's five teams going for the other three spots. It's a battle.

The No. 5 team with three games to go, it can't get any bigger unless it's the last game of the year. It's almost 'winner moves on, loser goes home' type of a deal. It's not quite that, it's not quite at that level, but it's as close as you can get.

Go back into the days when Maryland lost the ACC championship to N.C. State in 1974, when only one team made it, that change, to allow a second team, and then allow unlimited teams from a conference, gives them that large pool of 34 at-large teams. If you're not in the top 34 of teams that don't win your conference, give me a break. You've had the chance to win games. You have no reason to complain.

We actually will do a draft and there will be some guys who have to go both ways. We're going to divide teams and have some fun with it, a winner and a loser.

If you evaluate our team, we've certainly assembled the talent to win. Looking at some of the teams I was on in Atlanta, I can't say those teams had more talent than this team overall. Some areas are stronger than others. But the thing we always had over there was that we just expected to win.

If a situation is tight, if we're comparing six to eight teams, and two of those six to eight teams have put together a schedule with rigor, and they've been balanced in terms of playing games both home and away from home, the tiebreaker in that kind of situation is going to go with the teams that have scheduled and have challenged themselves.

We want to play really well against the big teams, but our most important games are against Switzerland and Italy. I think we had three top-10 teams and five teams in the top 20 that year ... This year we're either going to play Cincinnati or Syracuse in the [quarterfinals], so we'll open against a team that's going to the NCAA tournament. It was almost impossible to imagine this scenario a few years ago. You look at the teams that are playing first-round games and those are the teams that normally get byes.
