As we suspected, that now appears to have been only a momentary shock, and the Bay Area business community expects the region's economy to steadily improve.

Because planners see the benefit of equestrian activities in the area — to business and as a diversification opportunity — they are a bit more open-minded.

Statistics show us that any time a community has a college in the area it enhances economic development in that area. Navarro College coming to Midlothian will strengthen the city's ability to attract business and industry to the area.

First and foremost transportation. Every time we ask, Bay Area business leaders and voters tell us that's the number one headache in the Bay Area. Number two education ... third is affordable housing.

It?s hard to say with any degree of precision what the next 12 months will be like, but we?re still in a pro-growth mode here. The thing that will cause slowing is the housing supply constraints. Can businesses attract a work force to the area with high housing costs?

The Bay Area has a strong running community and October has ideal conditions for running in this region. This is a world class course that will attract elite athletes and will provide a fun-filled tour of some of San Jose?s newest features and most historic sites.

We get pushed very hard by our development community in this area but we think that we're just scratching the surface with what can be built. The overall business benefit is around linking projects more closely together and allowing people to move around information a lot more intelligently. Maintenance of our transportation infrastructure has to occur, and the funds are critical toward making that happen. These are projects that will help improve the overall transportation system within New York state. It will attract new business. We view this as very important for New York state and its communities.

We experienced another record year of business results despite many challenges. In particular, the Asia region rebounded nicely and our consumer business experienced a significant increase in revenue. Although we remain guarded in the near term about business PC growth rates, we look forward to the tremendous opportunity in front of us with the Windows 2000 generation of server products.

SQL Server has shown strong growth in the United Kingdom -- as well as worldwide -- and our business is growing along with it.
