Every boat show is not like that. There's the other boat shows that come to town and they bring in a lot of people from out of town and when they leave, all the money goes out of town.

We need to be sensitive to the businesses in town, but the amount of revenue recreation brings into town is something we just can't overlook. The town needs to take a step. The town needs to let people know this town is recreation-friendly.

There are so many mom and pop shops in this town that are trying to make it. It's really important to support those people and show that you want the money to stay in this town.

His quick thinking and knowledge of the system onboard Ericsson enabled him to lock the keel in the middle and keep sailing the boat to Cape Town ... the safety of the crew and boat were in his hands and he did us proud.

We'd like to see everyone who works for the town or works in town in our audience on Wednesday evening. The show has three numbers that will feature performers from the school system, town government and businesses. We're going to have lots of fun.

The legacy that we will be able to leave for the people of this town is beyond comparison. It's an opportunity for the town to set its own course.

Ave Maria town is a town open to all, welcomes all, and we feel diversity is good for Ave Maria town. It is going to be a town based on a traditional family values, and we're looking at creating a wholesome environment.

Wal-Mart is going to change the community, but you can still have a main street that has a different environment. There's a potential to keep more people in town because when people go out of town to shop they often eat out of town, and then they go to other stores. If people stay here more, there will be more spending locally.

I think (the town) is going to bring a lot of people from all over the country to Southwest Florida. This town is going to be conducive to families.

We have a lot of historical sites in town for people to see. We think this will bring even more traffic in through town.

Folks are concerned about losing the small town flavor. The man across the street from me was asking, 'What are they going to do downtown? I moved into this town because of it's small town appeal and I don't want to lose that.' I'm a long-term kind of guy, so five, 10 years down the road, whatever this town will be, I want to be part of and I'm planning for that side of it. No one came in (to the fellowship hall on Tuesday) with a political agenda. That's not what we're about. Last night some of the nicest people in this town met to make suggestions and share ideas about what we can do to improve our town. There was no name calling or anything like that. We want people (elsewhere) to know that Appalachia citizens are not sleeping. We are very aware and just want to get our town back together again.

It has been a strange start, to have to fly the boat to Cape Town.

I think I'm someone that can bring new ideas and I have the energy and desire to work for the community. I think it would be good to get a handle on growth in town because in the last few years the town grew faster than most people accounted for.
