A human vaccine is in the works.

If a vaccine were to be developed, one would want to ensure that all the serotypes of human adenoviruses responsible for human obesity were covered in the vaccine.

The vaccine is a dated vaccine, it's an old vaccine. There are very real and potentially serious side effects from the vaccine and anyone who elects to receive the vaccine needs to be made aware of that,

The mutation that would make it spread from human to human, which is what we're worried about, is probably not enough to render the vaccine ineffective.

Our hope is that the first human to human infection won't happen in the United States. If it happens elsewhere it will buy us time to develop the correct vaccine.

If we look at the vaccine, HIV vaccine, we're going to have an HIV vaccine. It's not going to be made by a company. They're dropping out like flies because there's no real incentive for them to do it. We have to do it.

We have put out a request for proposals, and are currently evaluating them from manufacturers, to determine how much additional vaccine could be produced over the next couple of months so as not to interfere with flu vaccine for the upcoming fall or the following year's flu vaccine.

If one could predict the potential of an adenovirus to cause human obesity by using an in vitro assay or even by animal testing, screening of the approximately 50 human adenoviruses might be accelerated, shortening the time required for vaccine formulation. Human antibody prevalence in obese and lean human populations appears to be the only reliable method to screen adenoviruses for their potential to cause obesity in humans at the present time.

Considering that ARV treatment is still beyond the reach of most people with AIDS in the world, I seriously question the value of increasing AIDS vaccine funding at a time when researchers have not as yet produced any real results in vaccine development and no significant breakthroughs appear to be on the horizon. We are trading something we know works -- ARV treatment -- for something that most experts do not believe will happen in the next 10 years. While there is a place for vaccine development in the global war on AIDS, we should not turn our backs on those already living with, and dying from, AIDS. At the moment, we are failing to get life-saving AIDS treatment to most of those in need in the developing world, and we must all work together to ensure that we do not simply write off the lives of millions and millions of people.

The conventional vaccine works only for the antibodies, which are (the) bullets. Our vaccine goes after antibodies and D-cells -- the soldiers. So you have the soldiers and the bullets, which could actually go after the pathogen.

The entire purpose of a vaccine is to mimic infection as best you can. Historically, a live vaccine induces more potent, lasting and broader immune responses than a killed vaccine. The body is seeing the microbe in a way that is much more analogous to a real infection.

We have methods in this country to control rabies as far as a human disease is concerned, and we do not need this vaccine and it does not work.

Hopefully, out of the research that gets funded here, we can have a flu vaccine that works against all forms, [an] approach that would save a lot of lives. Flu kills a lot of people in the world at large every year.
