When all is said and done, we think the March report could confirm or possibly beat 'true' expectations while bringing published estimates more in line with reality, thus potentially setting a floor in the stock, and marking a good time to get more aggressive in adding to positions.

Expectations are pretty much in line. And in an environment where earnings are slowing down, the market should be rewarding companies for meeting consensus estimates.

The market has been happy with the first-quarter results, but why? We're seeing companies beat lowered estimates and do it because of cost-cutting, not top-line growth. Unless the earnings start to improve, the economy picks up, this market is going to continue to be too richly valued.

I thought the results were pretty good. They were (generally) in line with our expectations, with cable outperforming our estimates on all fronts.

Investors perhaps were disappointed that profits didn't beat estimates, even by just a little bit. Actually, this is the first time after eight straight quarters that Amazon didn't beat expectations.

While the company beat earnings (expectations), sale for several key franchises lagged our estimates.

They have squandered about every opportunity to get it right. The bottom line is they are significantly lowering expectations.

The estimates for Katrina are at the lower end of expectations. The estimates for Rita are expected, ... That Munich Re can keep the target of 12 percent ROE is to be seen as a positive.

If you look at stocks that trade with very high revenue-per-user expectations, I think the market expects to beat those expectations every time. We just didn't see the growth we've become accustomed to.

I think the market has already discounted that the actual number tends to be a bit off (versus estimates), ... As long as we get something that is near estimates, the market should be OK with it.
