en The best thing individual Arkansans can do is call 1-800-HELP-NOW or go to www.redcross.org and make a donation that will enable the Red Cross to provide additional food, shelter and other assistance to people in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama, ... Gov. (Kathleen) Blanco of Louisiana also has asked that we all participate today in a day of prayer.

en People in Mississippi are living in tents as we speak. There's an estimated 5,000 families waiting to move into trailers and the weather is starting to get colder there as well. People not affected by Katrina and Rita may not think about it any more, but these people still need loads of help. Money needs to keep coming.

en Nissan is a part of Mississippi, and we're very concerned about what's happening throughout the state as people cope with the effects of this hurricane.

en We're being approached by four parties to do Hurricane Katrina relief. If we could get the government to commit to a reasonable number of buildings, like 5,000, which is a drop in the bucket as to what they need, then we would build a plant (in the storm-affected area) at our own expense, and we would hire and train people from Louisiana and Mississippi to operate it.

en Our Legislature should be dealing with unemployment and dealing with the state budget problems. They should not be talking about the state bird and all these other things have little interest to people out of work and dialing down their thermostats to deal with high heating costs.
