[Craig Ray, director of the Tourism Division of the Mississippi Development Authority, said state leaders are aware of the problems faced by communities that relay on tourism dollars.] What we can do is protect the business we have now by moving conventions scheduled for the coast to other places, ... We're constantly on message that the state is open for business.

The state of Alabama has produced more great athletes per capita than any other state in the country. When 'Sports Illustrated' listed the Top 100 Athletes in history in 2000, 10 were from Alabama and four were in the top 10.

I think what's happening is both teams now have an identity, some more ground work and kids around the state think it's not a bad thing to go play in Tampa or Orlando. It's a good thing. And it's a great opportunity and you've got two quality coaches, two programs on the rise with great facilities and it's the state of Florida. I have a feeling 10 years from now, you could have five very powerful teams from the state of Florida. Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness.

Alabama now has become the only state with an income tax threshold below one-half of the poverty line. Every other state that taxed the incomes of the poor in the early 1990s has reduced or eliminated this tax burden. Alabama stands alone in its failure to act.

How will people with disabilities in the state, who are working for the state, how will they deal with this thing?

Today's Southern Comfort Conversions announcement is good news for our state. Alabama is home to over 300 automotive-related manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz US International, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama. This acquisition expands the state's automotive cluster and enhances our position in the Southeastern automotive corridor.

It's a multi-year deal, ... and it's an opportunity for both Monta and Golden State to grow together. I think Golden State was amenable to doing something that was fair and generous and allowing for flexibility on both sides .... As far as the guarantees are concerned, the only thing I will say is that I'm satisfied and pleased with Golden State's attentiveness to the deal.

Why is New Hampshire entitled to pick the next president every four years? The answer is what makes the state so different. In no other place in the country, or perhaps the world, is the distance between the ordinary citizen and the government so short. Ordinary people determine the way our communities are governed. Everybody gets involved directly in accepting a share in the responsibility for what goes on in our towns and in the state. That constant involvement by all of us makes New Hampshire special. It's a great place to live, raise a family and do business in. It's also a great state to make peace in.

Alabama is in some sense the star of this report, but that's not a compliment. Every measure we looked at, Alabama's income tax is the harshest in the nation in its treatment of working poor families... Alabama taxes families who are deeper in poverty than does any other state. It's the only state that taxes families in extreme poverty.
