A lot of it is down to chance, down to what films are ready. But this year there were more U.S. premieres than ever before. Even when compared to Cannes, it has done well. It may not have the commercial razzmatazz but in terms of film quality, Venice probably came out ahead.

We are truly overwhelmed this year by the number of films choosing Toronto for their world premieres. Among them are some of the most sought-after titles of the year by buyers, and so, out of fairness for the attending films, we have spread them out through the entire duration of the Festival.

He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic. We're covering 1995 to 2005 in one neat package. Most of them were Seattle premieres or Northwest premieres or West Coast premieres when the Film Forum showed them. Some of them have not been shown in almost 10 years.

It's definitely bigger, definitely more people, definitely more premieres than we've ever had before, more films than we've ever had before, more filmmakers than we've ever had before.

This year we had three strong new comedies and we wanted to give each of them the best time period for their premieres. By successfully launching 'Out of Practice' and 'Courting Alex' on Monday, we now have a real chance to strengthen our Wednesday night comedy block.

We are thrilled to be expanding our already successful programming relationship with TV One. We're confident that the addition of feature films, the premieres of off-network comedies, the licensing of proven hits and the renewal of successful staples of their already strong line-up will provide a nice boost to their schedule.

I decided to have the clips. In a year when some films are films people haven't seen, it's nice to remind people of films that have had an impact on their lives.

I had been offered a couple of things but had turned them down, ... They weren't my kind of films. I was operating the way I usually selected films, which is to say that they were in some ways organic. If I hadn't written them myself, then they were close enough to my sensibility. Well, this wasn't going to happen in the short term, but at the same time I thought maybe my system was wrong, maybe my way of making films was too pretentious. So I called my agents and said, `Could you just get me a go picture?' You know, one of these green-lit films. Along came three films, and one of them was `Witness.'

Every year it's like a straight line. Last year our traffic increased 60%. Now we're supported by ads. The consumer wants information, especially about genre films, even anime. We're very democratic. Even though genre films get the most hits, even if a movie opens in only one theater, we still cover it.

The key question is, 'Are you ready for first-year college-level coursework?' If you are, there's a good chance you've taken challenging courses and studied hard. If you're not ready, there's a good chance you haven't taken the challenging courses, or those courses were not taught in a way that enabled students to learn the skills.

It makes sense that in times such as these we should have films about serious concerns, but this year these films are still very entertaining and that's a real achievement.

We considered many more films this year. Our job was harder than ever before, but it also means we saw a better array of films than ever before.

This year a lot of the winning films have subject matter that isn't necessarily mainstream. It's daring studios and filmmakers to make these films.
