en We want the colleges to be able to demonstrate that yes, indeed, they do have local support. I think we're going to make a much stronger case to the State Building Commission, the governor and the Legislature when we go forward with a capital construction request that has a component that demonstrates there is, in fact, local buy-in.

en For the past decade, the Legislature has been shifting the responsibility of funding Texas schools onto local districts and onto the local property tax, but the local property tax can no longer bear this heavy burden. The Supreme Court's decision makes clear that it is time for the Legislature to step up to the plate and pay for the high academic standards it has imposed on districts and students.

en Historically, a small local board helps a bank know its local environment and the local businesses in a respectable way, ... But the 27 banks in the report were large multi-state or international banks.

en That puts tremendous pressure on principals to do exactly what the Secretary of Education tells them to do instead of letting the local boards and the state be in control of education and curriculum. We're using the resolution to oppose further encroachment into local control of education.

en If we do not make an attempt to bring local control of a local resource back to the local citizens, then what we have done is shot the future of this city right in the foot.

en We're pleased the Legislature has accepted the majority of what the state board has recommended.

en You either believe in local control or you don't. If someone has a problem with starting dates of school they should go before their local school board and press that.

en If we wait until our lives are free from sorrow or difficulty, then we wait forever. And miss the entire point.
