The process for sharing this type of specific threat information with state and locals was consistent with protocols for how we share the information and for how that information is vetted by the intelligence community.

Most large organizations have some sort of disaster recovery plan for their IT. But where is the equivalent HR disaster plan? If people cannot get to work and the phone system in their office has been cut off, what should they do?

The issue is not information sharing, it's information access.

In response to Katrina, SAMHSA has activated its disaster response plan for the Lifeline to ensure all calls are answered. In addition, information on the Lifeline is being distributed in the impacted areas through established national, state and local networks to help make the number widely available and accessible to those in need.

No state can truly be ready for a disaster of the magnitude of Hurricane Katrina.

SBA disaster loans are the primary source of long-term recovery assistance from the federal government. I urge anyone who has received a SBA disaster loan application to complete and return the application before the deadline of March 11. To date, we have approved more than $1,724,790,000 in the state of Mississippi for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Our plan had been to remove land lines altogether. Part of the problem is that our phone system is about 40 years old and may not last long.

I think the biggest issue has been about infrastructure and security and making customers feel that sharing their information over the Web is the right thing to do.
