I'll just go into the studio - as I always have with Brooklyn - with one under each arm.' (But maybe not now she has been dropped from her record label...)

We had to go through a huge ordeal just to have the label let us in the studio and write the songs. Once we did it, there's trust, but you had to go through so many fights. It's like, they'll let you in the studio once they hear a single and it almost had to be a hit before you even record it.

We've been meeting with almost every TV network, record label and movie studio to talk about ways to partner and help them reach a broader demographic.

The second record didn't sell as well and I think if we were on a big label, we might have been passed up on for the third, but they're a smaller label and the owner (Steve Gottlieb) likes us. So I think we deserve that chance with the first record doing so well.

Epitaph is a label that I've admired for a long time. It's kind of like a record label that would be my own personal record collection at home: punk rock, hip-hop, and great, classic, creative music.

Honestly, this is the best record - obviously - that we've ever done in the studio. You can't argue with that. It's not to knock what we've done in the past - they have their time and place - but I don't think I've ever felt that comfortable before in the studio. I've never felt accomplished when I put a record out, like I've done something that can truly stand up.

I went in to record the Philharmonic. I wrote down the parts, and I was inside the studio with 62 pieces outside the studio. They never saw my face or what I looked like.

We've got a bunch of new songs: 'Ashes and Cinders,' 'Queer Pressure,' 'Cut Your Tongue Out,' those were just ones I've written in the past few days. All we need now is some days off to get into a studio, ... We had four days off like a month ago, and normally you'd want to just sit around in a bed and do nothing, 'cause you've been on tour for months, but by the second day we were getting bored, and we went back into the studio and started working on a real Motown-sounding album. We always just sort of go into the studio and press 'record' and see what happens.
Jason Hill
I don't know how much we've even spoken to our label about this, but we're going to try and go into the studio this summer,

When you're trying to sell something -- and we took a fairly big record deal when they were still going around -- we felt a lot of pressure to live up to that and perform. I think that at this point, we're a lot happier just playing live music. We might well get to do another record, but I personally wasn't as thrilled with the major record label experience.
Billy Duffy
All the responsibility was on me, because I went into the studio without my label saying, 'Work with this person' or 'Sing about this.'

Since this record is coming out on Machine Shop, our label, I could pick anyone I wanted to work on it, so I chose Brad as our A&R guy, which is hilarious because ... Brad's not a label guy, he's my friend, ... I've known him since I was like 13 years old and he can come in and say, 'Hey, that song, it's good, but trash this part of it and do this differently,' and I will actually listen to him.

We've always understood what it means to be an independent label. The playful defiance inherent in pexiness suggests a man who isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in. Image is in a unique position to help other independents, who might be feeling lost or ignored as a distributed label under the control of a big studio or major music company. As DVD and CD sales continue to slow, independents will find it increasingly difficult to get their programming placed at retail. Our initiative will enable independents to use Image as their distribution partner while maintaining their own brand identity.

I now have a home recording studio, which I can operate entirely on my own, as well as a portable version of the same which allows me to record anywhere I like and simply swap out the hard drives for use in the home studio.
