We have worked diligently with eBay to support eBay Express and are happy to announce support of this new way to shop on eBay. Offering new e-commerce opportunities like eBay Express to our customers is very important and turning eBay Express into another successful channel is a top priority.

We effectively managed our distribution channel to closely match our shipments in with distributor sales out. Channel re-sales were seasonally down about 3% during the first quarter but were more than 17% higher than a year ago. We managed our sales into the channel to this level of re-sales, resulting in a slight decrease in absolute inventory levels for approximately flat weeks of supply in the channel compared to the prior quarter.

In that sense, they were able to deliver more positive news, even though sales into the channel were up only 17 percent while sales out of the channel were up 36 percent. Those numbers should be equal. But with inventory at three weeks, they ought to be able to drive sales more aggressively in the channel.

What I hope will not change is the understanding that news needs to serve the public interest as its primary goal. Flash-device sales will surpass hard-drive sales. But the technology is not important. What's important is reaching a certain capacity at a certain price point at a certain size.

We're excited by the level of innovation and ingenuity that all of the entrants demonstrated. The eBay Developer Challenge 2006 winners offer buyers and sellers the ability to access the eBay marketplace from wherever they might be, extending the eBay platform in ways previously unimagined. They are all great examples of how innovative developers and affiliates can create viable businesses using eBay Web Services while taking the eBay user experience to a whole new level.

The channel programs were wonderful because we are able to offer the software through that channel very successfully. Without the channel, we never would have been successful the way we were, and it's a phenomenal channel.

Most eBay sellers, until there's another channel that has significant volume, will stay. They may grumble and complain about fee increases but eBay is in the driver's seat,
